Who is Getting Winter Tires?
I live in Lake Tahoe and love to drive my TTS. I can even fit my race skis in my TTS Cab.
I have my Winter tires on order (Alpin 4) which happen to be same size in front 245/30, but a bit more narrow (per Porsche) in rear at 295/20 vs 305/20.
I have Center Locks, but Porsche shows 2 wheel sizes. Either 8.5 or 9 in front and 11 or 11.5 in rear. I am not sure if I have the 8.5/11 or 9/11.5.
Currently I have Summer tires 245 front and 305 rear. Dealer says I am fine for my Winter Tires at 295 even if I have the 11.5.
However, I was looking at getting some additional wheels for my different tires.
I saw that Vivid had a deal on the Advan GT, but they only have in 9 inch front and 12 inch rear. Even Austin at Vivid said the 12 rear is too wide for 295 rears. They can get a 11.5, but have to order from Japan. Problem is that my tire install is next Thursday. And, I need my Winter tires ASAP as I am in Tahoe and we have already got snow and expect more soon
Comments or questions appreciated.
By the way, what is the typical turn around time and cost for changing my Center Locks each time.
Thanks

I've been running the Michelin Alpin 295/30/20 on the rears (11.5 stock rim) for the past two seasons with no issues...The tire is stretched just a little bit but you want to be running narrower tires for the winter anyways...
As long as the shop has the centerlock torque wrench, it shouldn't take more then an hour tops to change all four wheels..
Cheers,

charge, thanks as that's what I thought and dealer says too.
Nanook, you don't know what you are missing. As long as you go out on clear days without the road sludge (also, wouldn't want to drive city streets with a bunch of pot holes, etc) But, Mountain roads, oh my my.
It is all good. I had 2 GT-R's and they are so fun to drive in Winter. I can't wait to drive the P Car on those beautiful Blue Bird days.

Trader the roads here in winter as just brutal..loaded with salt and sand/gravel..not to mention loooser drivers that can take you out..If I could transport the car to a dry sunny mountain road that would be great..Have you seen the Kicking Horse, Crowsnest or Coquihalla in the winter..scary !!
As a matter of fact I just parked the two cars (ZR1/Turbo) an hour ago for the winter season..insurance off Nov 1..
Now the long winter wait begins

I'd be hesitant to use that wide of a rim for winter. What about using the stockers for the winter tires and those in the summer?
You can have two sets of tires/rims and buy the required CL tools ($1k or so) and then do the changes in your garage if you're so inclined. You might run a few searches to find more info. It's a more work than a 5 lug but nothing you can't do. I like doing that type of thing myself primarily so I don't have to get an appointment anywhere!
I'm planning to get my 991.2 TT delivered on snow tires, and I went with 5 lugs just to make it easier on myself. I'm not sure if I'll get the second set of rims right away or wait a season or two.

Hey trader 247, I've got a set of winter wheels/tires that were used on my '15 tts fs on the classifieds. Not sure if you've already got the tires on order/noncancellable, but just a thought. Rims and tires used for one season, good tread left. Only one small ding on the left front spoke, seen in photos.

Regardless, enjoy the tts in the snow!

I never drive my sports cars in the snow, but I always mount winter tires. Even before the snow begins to fall, like right now, the roads are just too cold for summer tires, especially R compound tires. Winter tires means I can go hard on the gas at temps that would make the summer tires break traction and trigger traction control - or even worse - fail to stop you during a panic stop. Winter tires probably give you an extra two months of safer driving - November until the first snowfall and March until temps stay about 55.
