This is a welcome improvement...can't wait for this car. Interior is awesome and going to be a home run.
The 997.2 didn't have auto headlights?? lol. Seems like they're a little late on cool electronic features (took a while for bluetooth, ipod integration, XM)

Yea, that was discussed because the Panamera had it as an option. That's great, I hope they don't charge a ridiculous amount...

I plan on picking up a 911 in the future, but I'd be torn between a 997.1 GT3/TT and a 991-S.
I don't have to explain why I love the GT3/TT.
I love EVERYTHING about the 991-S, especially the interior.

in the larger pictures, it's much easier to see that the carrera (red) has an exposed center rad but the carrera s looks like it does not. i wonder why that is.

The 2 things which turn me off are the chrome buttons inside. I like the Carrera GT look console but the sheer amount of chromes is just too much. The other is the lettering in the back, it seems like the latest iteration of Porsches are all a mouthful. Why would you need: "Porsche 911 Carrera S", all spelled out on the butt. The current "Carrera 4 GTS" is already at its limit IMHO. I am sure the option to delete some of the letterings will be one of the most popular option and hopefully Porsche will not charge you for it.

I like the bigger interior as my oldest son is growing taller. May be there will still be a 911 in my garage a few years from now.

Some other random rumblings...

I am glad that I got a 997.2 after seeing all the new pics of the 991. I am glad because as usual, each new generation of the 911 does not obsolete the previous generation but more an extension/refinement of the previous one. I can still look at a 993 or 964 today and wished that I can find a mint one to buy. (Even the 996 is growing on me, from the back it does look very much like a 997) I guess this is the reason why I got a 911 and have beeing wanting one since I was a kid. There are not that many car out there which can "last" this one in one's mind.

I was on the fence if I liked the 991 especially the interior but after seeing these Im gonna go on a limb and say I wont dare go test drive it because I will want one. Porsche looks like they done it again not that I knew they wouldnt.. but the car looks very well done very clean and subtle in the right ways

Thanks for the links. They were very informative.

Couple of things that I noticed:
1) I think PCM is not standard on the s trim anymore. Not sure though
2) Porsche color pallet hasn't changed much. Still using many of the same colors
3) I am disappointed that they don't have a green color in the line up. malachite or PRG would be great.
4) The S trim engine is rated at 400ps. I used a unit converter online and it said that it is only 394.52hp. Does that mean that the new 991 has less than a 10hp bump than the outgoing model?

in germany the outgoing

997.2 carrera had 345PS
the 997.2 carrera S had 385PS

so the 991 carrera recieved +5PS
the 991 carrera S +15PS

so + ~13.5HP for the 991S model compared to the 997.2S
but only a 4HP bump from the 997.2 carrera to the new 991 carrera

For those that are saying that the 991 is 'losing' the 911 philosophy, replace 991 with 997 and 997 with 993... History repeats.

I've been thinking the same thing, but with the 996 being compared to the 993.

EXACTLY!!! You hit the nail right on the head.

And I am really disappointed that the new carrera S didn't break the 400 hp mark. I know hp isn't everything, but I'd at least want 400 hp if I am going to cough up six figures in this day and age. That is my only major gripe about this car.

Eventhough the new S is only 15 hp up and didn't break the 400 hp mark but they do weight 100 lbs. less

The 100lb weight reduction is going to be much more significant than a 15hp power increase. The nimbleness that comes from the lighter weight is one of the things that I miss going from the Cayman S to the Turbo.

You know, I was thinking that too but then I re-read the article. I believe it actually states that they figured out how to lose 99 pounds from the bare chassis, but that the actual curb weight was TBD. The way they worded it had me concerned that they managed to lose the weight in one place but added some of it back in other places. Thus, the ultimate curb weight wasn't released yet and it's still a bit mysterious. I obviously hope that they really did manage to lose 99 pounds from the entire curb weight of the car, but doubt we're that fortunate.

i think the actual curb weight will be higher than the 997.2 and 997.2 S models.
