I have to see the car in person before I can say whether I really like it or not, but so far it's really not growing on me at all. I'm really really trying to like it, trying to convince myself that it's nice and all, but it's too "sleek" or "modern" for my taste.
The 997 is very reminiscent of the 993, probably the best looking 911 ever made IMO. The "991" (or whatever designation this will be) is too "futuristic" or "Panamera-ish" for my taste.
But again, I need to see it in person.

Here we go.... anytime there is a model change of any car you always have the two sides. The purist who do not want anything to change, change is bad. And the progressivist (is that a word?) who embrace the evolution and growth. I'm the later. I get excited about new stuff.
Wait! 991? Really? They went from 996 to 997... what happened to 998. Why are they going backwards. Now that pizzes me off! I don't know if I can buy a car from a copmany that can't count.

So, the new 'thing' is longer wider and lower?
Good news for a track or a 'special moments' car. Not so much for a daily driver.
As 1BlinkGone wrote: Strays too much into GT territory.
Here's what I don't quite get - The model that REALLY needs a design fix is the Panamera. So why fix the 997? And especially, why 'fix' it in the direction of the Panamera? Cripes.
The pic below sort of gives me the heebie-jeebies. It's not hideous, but the PA looks ok from this angle as well, due to the fore-shortening.
There's just something about the proportions that doesn't seem to add up.
More evident in the side shots. The entire rear third of the car looks unbalanced and clumsy / inelegant.
I guess we'll see.

Do you think Porsche's trying to make the new 911 look like the Panamera or the
Panmera look look the 991 ? Given the Panama's looks have not been received all that well by the automotive journalists, I'm thinking the later.
One thing I can tell you is I will be glad when the newest, latest, and greatest version is out in public so we won't have to endue more " spy phote posts" on the newest model which will look a lot like the old model to my eye. No offense to those who enjoy the whole "spy cam marketing thing" Porsche is so fond of but isn't it strange that there are always so many "spy cam" sightings. Makes you wonder if Porsche really isn't keeping the lastest and greatest version a secret after all but just wants us to think they are.

They were too far down the road with the 991 to change it based on the Panamera reception. I am sure there will be a strong family character to the cars.
I don't really like the longer rear overhang. It looks strange to me. I for one would like them to stick closer to the heritage of the 911. Even though this model is supposed to be 100 lbs lighter imagine what they could have done without the increase in size.

I am concerned as I am 6'2" and can fit easily with headroom in my 997.1 but with the reduction in roof height this looks like it may be a closer fit than my current car which might be an issue

It looks nice and mandane when comparing to current 997. Guess Porsche designers are fearfull to give any fried egg headlights for future 911 series. In a nutshell, it's ok but just within expectation. And love to see the engine will be tuned more aggresive for S version. Interior is really hard to say, i like it, like to see thousands of buttons in central console.

* I'm only 5' 5", so it probably won't present me with a problem anyway.

A couple of more images posted today. One is obviously a photoshop, but the other two look close to real pictures:
