What does confuse me is how can one day, the 991 not follow the 911 tradition, but the next day it can? We know that they are going to make the 991.2 more luxurious and will be hybrid, which are all deviations from the "911 tradition." The shape of the 991 is not going to change that much. So what will possibly change your mind in the future? Quite honestly, I think something else is influencing the naysayers...and it may be your pocketbook...

And to be fair, no one here knows how the 991 drives. So I think it is a little premature to decide if it is compelling enough or not to buy it yet without a test drive. I think it is a fair and pertinent statement (especially with porsche) that numbers alone don't tell the whole story.
I agree this almost 100%. This is what happens EVERYTIME on EVERY forum. The new car comes and some people who have the old one say thank God I got what I did while others say I am so glad I waited. Both sides have to justify their decision for what they chose. You hit the nail on the head though because no one has driven it yet which is the most important thing so none of this really matters. Even after people drive it though most people have already made their decision on how they feel about the car ahead of time and no matter how good the car drives they will never change their minds. I can only say that my money is on the fact that this will be the best selling 911 ever (educated guess) so apparently Porsche did something right. They are a business afterall and if we ran a business we would try to acomplish the same thing. Both the 997 and 991 are some of the best cars in the world period. Thats how I look at it.

I forgot to say in my above post that the new Yellow looks to be one of the best colors for the new 991.

The yellow above is money! I also like the "Porsche" only as the rear badge.

agreed, racing yellow would be my fist choice and i usually like darker colors, but it just looks so good on the 991.
Together with a black Porsche lettering, black wheels & black exhaust tips = pure win.

I have to say. This 991 really has to grow on me. Though the shots of the aero kit does help a bit. We will see

Haha, same things were said about 997 when it came out by the 996 owners and 993 owners said same about 996 . . . Happens every model change and I was resistant to the 997 when it first came out thinking it was step back when Italians and other high end cars were making great strides in new modern designs.

Candidly, the 911 needs a serious face lift and the model is getting a bit tired to me. never thought I would say that as the turbo has been my favorite car since Caddy Shack days and Spencer poster days. Anyone remember hot looking legs hanging out from behind bumper of a turbo. So many great looking and dependable cars out there now. Not sure if 991 does enough to create a great step forward, but Porsche has their following and will always be able to sell 911s no matter what they look like provided they are fun to drive and reliable.

The 991 really is a great looking car, a proper step up from the 997 design wise.
