991 in speed yellow + comparisons
i have posted these pics in the 997 section before,
i thought it may be useful to post them in a separate thread on the all new 991 forum:
991 and 997:
991 and Aston Martin Vantage:
(Cause some said the new 991 looks a bit like a 911 as interpreted by Aston Martin.)

I really hope this is the case and that you are right. If there is a huge demand for the old 997, then the prices on new 991's will be soft.

it's gonna get expensive fast.

I really hope that everyone will hate the 991. That coupled with a slow economy will mean that there will be a lot of stock at dealerships. Then, dealerships will have to do a fire sale to get rid of their aging stock. And if they use lime gold on the launch cars, then there for sure will be lots of discounts to be had.

Wow.. That single comparison shot says a lot.. I've always loved the look of the 911 from behind.. Now.. no so much.
I'm sure the 991 will grow on me, but for now I have absolutely no desire to 'step up'.

And as you also know...I'm that much in love with my GTS.

As you know, I'm one of those not too thrilled with the 991. It's not that I don't like it, or don't recognize the value in the advancements, but it doesn't (currently) symbolize what the 911 tradition means to me. Maybe that will change over time, we'll see. I just don't see anything compelling enough in the 991 to consider moving to one.
And as you also know...I'm that much in love with my GTS.
What does confuse me is how can one day, the 991 not follow the 911 tradition, but the next day it can? We know that they are going to make the 991.2 more luxurious and will be hybrid, which are all deviations from the "911 tradition." The shape of the 991 is not going to change that much. So what will possibly change your mind in the future? Quite honestly, I think something else is influencing the naysayers...and it may be your pocketbook...
And to be fair, no one here knows how the 991 drives. So I think it is a little premature to decide if it is compelling enough or not to buy it yet without a test drive. I think it is a fair and pertinent statement (especially with porsche) that numbers alone don't tell the whole story.

That is perfectly fine. No need to justify your purchase and please enjoy your car. I too had the opportunity to buy a 997 gts with a McDonald's Super Size discount too, but I passed. I just could not get myself to buy a car to have it instantly outdated within a year or two. Different strokes for different folks is for sure the case here.
