Well that's just stupid. My choice is save the weight and remove it all together, just my opinion.

 

I actually think this is pretty cool. I'm glad it's available on the manual as well as the PDK.

 

My 2011 M3 has this . I don't use it and have not even tried it yet (car is relatively new) .
It is my understanding that the unknowing driver feels like the car stalled out only to find it start up instantly when he engages it.

Guessing but wires for remote start and stop cluster lights etc and weight is weight along with complications that could arise I am just old school "keep it simple". I am curious what is starting the engine the starter, if so what problems long term are associated with it doing it this way with stop and go in LA or on an uphill in San Fran. In my opinion I just find it to be overkill and actually makes me nervous.

 

The technical complications that you pointed out is a valid point that you made. All this electronic gizmos complicate things exponentially, which spells problems for those who want to keep the car for an extended period of time.

 

I will talk about if from the fact that it is in my Cayenne. I find it annoying and turned it off.

When you come to a stop the engine shuts off and as stated let off the brake and it starts back up, the thing is that it doesn't feel right, it's not as dramatic as starting the car, but it is still very noticeable and there is a slight hesitation when taking off from a stop, that I do not care for at all. It's bad enough in city stop sign/stop light driving, but flat out horrid in stop and go L.A. traffic.

Like also stated, to me it seems like it would be more wear and tear than just letting the engine run.

I turn it off in my cayenne as well. My wife and I find it very annoying...I know it's suppose to save gas and all, but the mild jerk and the delay start is a big no thanks

 

My wife also has this on her Cayenne. Drove us nuts. It is turned off. I hope it is an option on the 991 because I would not pay for it again.

Sometimes, I think these technological innovations are one step forward but two steps backwards. It is one step forward because we get to save gas. But it is two step backward because it is such a hassle and we have to pay for it.

 

Yeah, but Porsche has to do something to achieve those strict future CO2 regulations in the US but also elsewhere.
Without such things as a Start/Stop, a long ratio-7th gear, the coasting function etc. we would probably soon see 4 cylinders in the 911.
i mean the whole Porsche thing started with 4 cylinders but itīs surely not something a 911 owner would love to see.

so the choice is:
6 cylinder with all that fuel/CO2 reducing stuff
or no 6 cylinders anymore in the near future.

i think it is clear which one to choose

 

The auto engine stop start is one way for manufacturers to help move toward meeting increasingly stringent CAFE standards. As long as legislation mandates lower fuel consumption standards over time, manufacturers will resort to these methods to decrease fuel consumption. I cannot really blame them!

Another unwelcome feature I noticed when I first drove my new (back in 09) F430 Spider was that the F1 transmission always starts in automatic mode. The driver has to manually disengage the auto mode. This again was forced on Ferrari by European fuel consumption rules.
