...wishing we had much more to talk about regarding the 991. I check this subforum daily and recognize of course it will pick up tempo when we actually have the 991 in our hands.

I agree. I have been checking daily, but no really huge developments. Most of the things about the 991 have been hashed out until we get our hands on one. After that, I expect a few conversations about:
1) how the 991 drives more mid engined and not a rear engine and hence not a real 991.
2) the electronic steering complaints
3) 7 speed mt
4) more zany reasons why the 991 is such a huge deviation from the 911 tradition.
5) how expensive the 991s and the plethora of new reasons why the 997 is superior.
I plan to bring my popcorn then and just read the comments about how the 991 is the ugly lime-gold step child of the 911 family. It's cool, I'll take the ugly step child. Someone's gotta love it.

I think it will be a good but expensive car. I just don't like the thought of having to pay for technology like stop/go features even though they can be disabled. Any thoughts on when the magazine reviews will start?

Yes I think we are all anxious to hear first hand from the people all about the 991. This 991 forum is going to explode. I am just wondering when the 996 forum is going to get bumped down to the "Porsches of the Past" section. That will irk me.

It will explode for sure. The 991 is pretty controversial. and 1400 posts is amazing given we only have seen photos and option lists.
And I think the 991 is too expensive for its own good. We are on a cusp of another recession...Oh well. I'm sure we won't have a repeat of 2009...porsche and dealerships are wiser now.

While US is complaining that 991 is expensive, if I am not wrong, USA is the cheapest place to buy Porsche in the world. Cheaper than in Germany or EU where Pcars were produced. Not to mention in Asia where they were taxed to dead......

I think it is important to use percentages that absolute sheer numbers. If I remember correctly, and please other members chime in as I don't remember the prices of old 911s, but a well equipped 996 was about 80k. But a well equipped 991s is around 120k, meaning there is a 50% increase in price within the last 10 years. Has other countries experienced a steep rise like that? Not sure. I only know American prices.

It is right to do comparision in percentage wise. However, the biggest part of price increase in US came from weak USD. 10 years ago EUR/USD was around 1 : 1 but last month when they fixed the price, the exchange rate was around 1.42. So 42% increment is by weaker USD (now with economic turmoil 1.35)

i think the most expensive thing about the 991 is the endless options list, with lots of great but also pricey stuff like PDCC, Burmester, PDK etc.
Porsche has really stepped it up with their options, but people want luxury as much as they want sports nowadays, so they have to pay for it.

I am not a hater and I suspect that the performance upgrades/capability will be noticeable, the one thing that I still don't like is that the middle section of the car looks very generic now that the windshield is more slanted than prior generations. In a way, the new profile makes it looks like a common 2+2 sports car that we may see from other higher-end sports car makers. In other words, in its quest for driving neutrality/dynamics, has the 911 become a cookie cutter?
