Thinking of getting the 991 S

Hi Guys, this is my first post on this forum. Excited to be here and be a part of this community for many months & years. Currently I have a BMW 7 which I bought when my daughter was born but never seem to use my 7 series as we always drove around in my wife's Audi Q7. I am now itching for a smaller sports car. I have been thinking about the new 991 S since I heard the news of its release. This could possibly be my first Porsche ever.

Couple of questions.... I like the manual drive of a car.. Should I get PDK or manual shift? What is really a PDK?

If I were to order this 911S in a couple of weeks, when do you think the delivery in New Jersey, USA should be? I've read that some people are getting it in a couple of months and some don't even have dates.

Looking forward to chatting with you all.

I want to see how you are building it out as i am not sure of some of the options myself.
pdk vs. 7 speed is one of them just like you.

welcome to this great forum and how cool/exciting to get an all new model as a 1st Porsche, congrats!!

PDK or Manual is matter of personal preferences.
Since this forum is called 6 speed i think that most on here would get more pleasure in the street and country road driving from a manual transmission. It engages more in the old school form of driving a sports car.
Shifting is like a grand tradition and it gets u more involved in the whole driving experience.

PDK is an automated manual transmission with 2 clutches and it is quicker than any human being and it changed the game of automatic transmissions completely. Porsche is selling more and more PDKs each year.

PDK is the fastest u can go with in a Porsche but the manual is probably the most rewarding way to drive a Porsche. So if u don`t care about milliseconds and u have always liked driving manuals, the new 7-speed manual is the way to go imho!

P.S. U.S. customers with dec. builds will get ther cars in march 2012.

catchmyshadow,

have you driven the manual transmission? i am all for the manual but wife can't drive the manual and previously she had one major compaint about my 911 c2s that she couldn't drive it. So i am only trying to be sensible.

Thanks, this process is really exciting. I am more of a manual shifting guy and one of the reasons I want to get back to a sports car is because of the manual trans.

Is there a cutoff period to do a build this year to get the car by February?

there are guys on here (and on german Porsche forums) that have already placed orders before the official reveal and they will get their cars in early february. i am not sure but i don`t think that february is possible if you would order today.

Guess March is the magic month for me

I am getting more and more excited about this as I read more posts about the 991.

Has anyone done the lease on the 911 S?? If so, what are the lease payments coming out to on your MSRP?

Feels far. My order is in and presumably locked (c2s, dark metallic blue, pdk, all performance options), and I am being told feb/march like most of the others. It is KILLING me...also my first P after many years of dreaming.

Sabrol you should get a PDK, a highly sophisticated auto transmission, much faster than any manual. Plus you will have to wait much longer for the manual, as the PDKs are coming out first and are indeed the wave of the future. Why do something yourself manually when technology can to it much more efficiently. It amounts to nothing more than ludite mentality. Just my opinion.

you won`t get some stars for that.

Porsche has invested fresh money in the new 7-speed manual, which means there is demand and also a future for manuals.
PDK is fast, but a manual is fun, isn`t it great to have a choice?

Choice is great But like Henry Ford put it, you can have any transmission you want so long as it is PDK.
