Could it be less of a cabriolet bubble butt design?

definitely an improvement. basically a hardtop wrapped in canvas.

 

I like the 997 cabs in their own right, but they have certainly improved it on the 991. That said, they still lack the classic 911 Coupe rear side windows, that are probably virtually impossible to execute on a cabriolet. But yes, it's a more refined profile.
