I either didn't know of just was remind that the 991 has that start/stop technology. Cool. I may or may NOT leave that turned on (it's a switchable feature) but I'm glad. It's a conversation piece for sure - I drove a new Cayenne that had it and it's very smooth and much like those golf carts that you simply get out of when you take your foot off the gas.

Its cool at first but in super stop and go traffic (city core driving) it gets annoying and we turned it off. Its those crawl traffic moments - then you starting driving "around it" and that gets weird, you keep trying to predict when the car will shut off. Anyhow great technology but its off in ours.

Well, that I'm not so sure about. It' doesn't actually turn over your engine life a traditional cranking starting. It's very smooth and undetectable like those golf carts. You aren't sitting at a light that just turned green while your engine cranks over like a '71 Nova on a cold day.
Not to mention that I'm sure porsche considered the "hard on the starter" concept and worked to alleviate this.
You gotta drive one of these cars and check out the technology - very smooth and instant. Unsure if I'll be leaving it on or not.
Kudos to Porsche for adding all this technology into their cars and still remaining "The most reliable European automaker". Did you know the PDCC system communicates with the headlamp leveling system - they share information. I mean, who wrote the OS that these cars run on???

not true
i have been speaking to several sources over the years since the system was invented.
it doesn`t reduce the starter lifespan noticeably, so don`t worry!
agreed but despite all the new luxury and tec gizmos, Porsche has actually managed to keep the weight down on the 991 due to the extensive use of aluminium instead of steel. It´s ~80 pounds lighter than the 997.

1. The guy is not a great auto journalist. He tried to take a theme and run with it.
2. The 991 is lighter than the 997.2 by almost 100lbs.
