991 First Drive
#31
This morning I was lucky to get some quality time in the local 991. Roads were dry this time and the weather was good. Some additional impressions:
This cars sounds great ! The start-up in the dealer delivery bay was amazing. Deep rumbling with the stock muffler.. the base system was much better than my old 05 997 with PSE. Porsche has finally engineered the exhaust to perfection.
PDK shifts are like music.. super smooth and a burst of engine noise with each shift. When you down shift you get a nice short growl from the engine. I've owned 6 911's (2 Tips and 4 6Speeds) and I'm sold on the PDK. I found myself continuously shifting and prefer PDK manual to full auto. My test car did not have sport chrono... looking forward to that test drive.
The seats are very comfortable. After 45min of driving I did not want to get out. Visibility is very good and road noise is very low. My car had a slight dash rattle that was distracting. The cabin is so quiet I think that any slight noise will be annoying.
Now the best part.... as I was returning to the dealer I floored the car... it ran up to 5K rpms... I pressed the accelerator a little harder and it clicked and the engine jumped to 6500 rpm. It was like it jumped into sport plus mode. The car had only base sport mode.... I think there is a hidden bonus here !
For a basic C2S this is a great car. Sounds, comfort and handling are very good.
My C2S Cab will be here in April. I can't wait !

Hi Dave,
Thanks so much for the great review. I am wondering if the one you test drove has the "power steering" option. I have heard such good things about the standard exhaust (in Sport mode) and great interior sans leather. Seriously if you wanted to save some good coin those 2 alone are close to 10k here in Canada. Can't wait to get up and personal with the 991 this week some time.

I Just received the 991 service info book (PNA 911 021 12) from Suncoast

If you have a 991 on order you must have this !

While in standard interior might be better than the 997, I feel that once you see the full leather many will opt for that. It is just such a big difference with the leather dash and the alcantara a pillars.
