My 991 test drive (short)
All -
I know many of you are eager to munch on long, detailed reviews of the 991 - I am too. But this one will be short, but hopefully sweet.
As a reference I've had the 997.1 turbo, 997.2 GT3, 997.2 C2S within the past 2 years. Love the 911 models.
The "loaded" 991 S was still being prepared so I drove the "stripped" version - still with a $111k sticker. PDK, no sport chrono, no PDCC, no sport exhaust, etc. Sorry, should have snapped a pic of the car and the sticker.
Sound: awesome. raspy, loud, burbles. I've modded every one of my 911 exhausts but this one doesn't need a thing IMO. Love it.
Acceleration: very good. I drove a 2012 997 GTS 30 mins before the 991. the 991 seemed to have a bit more pickup from a dig, and more impactful shifts than the GTS. The 991 was not overtly superior on the butt dyno over the 997 GTS but there was a noticeable bump in performance.
Handling: excellent. Tossed the car around and compared to the GTS the 991 seemed better planted with sharper turns. Vastly noticeable improvement.
Steering: Fine. Not great, not horrible. Would take the 997 steering any day, and would even pay a premium to have it back (upwards of 3-5K).
Looks: Beautiful to me.
Interior: felt much more as if I were in a "sport car". Love the Pan-like center console which helps to secure you in that ****pit-like feel. I heard people mentioning the interior (non-full leather) was much improved over the 997. To me the standard dash, etc., in the 991 is just as "plastic" as in the 997. For a car of this stature I'd pay extra for the full leather, not that I wouldn't take a good deal on a 991 without.
Bottom line: First used 991S with reasonable depreciation in the selling price is mine
