Drove the 991... a bit disappointed

I don't know if it was softer but it did seem to smooth out bumps in the road better. I can say I would definitely NOT order the PSE on the 991. It is very loud and annoying to my ears. The standard exhaust is perfect and actually is identical to the PSE of the 997. I will take delivery of my 991 as planned. At 44 I appreciate a smoother ride as opposed to my younger days.

It's the usual objective vs subjective question. Since we're not racing these cars, I think subjective is what matters most. But one problem is that the car mags/reviewers keep making these comparisons of objective parameters (0-60, etc.), so manufacturers are pressured to keep improving those numbers in order to compete. This stuff really makes me appreciate the simple purity of the Cayman R.

I think in the past that have been taken as a negative (see any 911 vs cayman buying decision thread), but the cayman is so well respected now that it is now a positive.

I like the fuss my 997.2 makes off the line LOL. I feel plugged into the car. That, and with the top down and SE on I find myself rarely having the radio going. Therapy's <my cars name> growl beats any radio tune by leaps and bounds

you bring up an interesting point...as I recall but haven't checked a second time; Chris Harris's Excellence review talks of the 991 going in a cayman like direction.

Tommorow morning, I plan to drive the 991, so that should answer some questions. Even if I love it, waiting for a GT3 version may make sense, given that we haven't had the 911 and CR that long. Plus, there will still be the question of what the 7MT is like.

I'm just picturing what the GT3/2/RS versions will cost now

I should have been clearer and said the objective performance numbers are better than the previous models.

Agreed, the 991 is not really a 911 anymore.. Its a new bread of luxury sports car, it looks like a 911 and performs like a 911 but it doesn't feel like a 911...

To me the noise insulation is what people are mistaking as a softer ride. To me it was flat, stable, and agile.
Remember the sports(+) button.

Not to mention its lighter than the outgoing 997...I love the 991.

lol, always the same old complaints when a new 911 comes out.

Correct me if im wrong, but my understanding is that the 991 is longer in wheelbase by 100mm, not in total body length. It looks longer because of the windshield base (angle) being moved forward and the car being shorter. This is how they achieved the 25mm of extra leg room in the cabin.
PS, I finally saw one in person the other day....Gorgeous!!!

exactly, the wheelbase has grown by 3.9 in but the overall length only by 2.2 in.
they also lowered the roof, so the 991 appears much longer than the previous 911, but it isn`t.
