Recap of this week

This week was kind of a hit and miss with the springs and spoiler not delivered in time to be installed for the week end. Reality is they were still in Germany and SpeedART did not tell the full story Anyway, they promised they would expedite and get everything delivered next week. We'll see...
Hope it does not end up like the SiriusXM issue that is still not resolved for a bunch of 991 owners. What a joke!

Meanwhile, the install of the new decals was completed:

BTW, the black decals work much better at the back of the car with the withe reflectors.

Also got the mirror covers painted black:

And got mesh grilles installed to protect the radiators from rock & debris and the cavity to get filled with leaves, etc.

Ready to leave for Alabama tomorrow. Should be in good company for the HPDE with a bunch of GT3(RS), Vipers, GTR, ZR1s... I am sure not to be the fastest around the track

Thx for all the updates.

Very interested if you would like to share more info on the grilles. Custom pieces? Are they easily removable?

Grilles were made from scratch with material bought from the Home Depot and cut to size. It is simply attached with black zip ties that are not visible.
I guess there will shortly be aftermarket parts available, but it will be based on the same principle.

Week end at Barber Motorsports Park

More to come, including videos, but here are a first few pics and impressions.
The event was organized by Rezoom and we were in good company:

The pro's:

...and us (my 991S and friends' 997 C2S and 997 TT):

Even the view through the hotel window was beautiful:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/60293300@N06/6968420158/
The track is great, not very fast, but keeps you very busy which is perfect for beginners like us. I felt I made huge improvements over the week end.
The premises are extremely well maintained and you even find sculptures around the track:

The Porsche Sport Driving School cars were parked in the paddocks. Maybe they would not notice if one car was missing...
http://www.flickr.com/photos/60293300@N06/6963679558/
The school still operates 997's, but it looks like 991's should arrive soon:

The sad part is that a couple of cars were wrecked, including a nice 996 GT3 (I blurred parts of the photo and posted it in B&W to protect the anonymity of the unfortunate pilot).

More to follow...

Forgot to mention that we had reserved our spot in the paddocks

Here's a first video with a lap behind a tuned Camaro SS. Those muscle car drivers, they really have a problem with letting you pass them. Tsss.....
The V8 had a great sound and pulled hard in the straights but you can see on the video that the Camaro, even with more hp, is much less lighter on its feet and looses all its straight line edge in the turns.

tgcrun is infamous around these parts
Great vid! I'm probably in the minority on this, but I'm keeping the red reflectors on my white Cab when it arrives. I like the contrast.

Great news! Would love to track my car right now watching this video... But I still need to wait 3 months to get it

Just a question SM_ATL: You did install the SPASM front lip, right? I will do the same (just for the looks / I will get a PASM car). Did you discuss with anyone at Porsche whether the different shape will affect aerodynamics?

I am just concerned that (surely only at high speeds) the spoiler designed for the 10mm lower car will not work as properly on the PASM car as the PASM spoiler aerodynamic-wise. And I do often high speed on the autobahn (I livein Germany ).

Thanks!

Yes, I did install the lip and only have regular PASM. I did not check with Porsche, but my engineering background tells me that the aerodynamic impact is negligible when you compare both lips.
Anyhow, I am getting the car lowered on SpeedART/H&R springs as soon as they get here (they are in limbo between Germany and the US) and will tell you if I feel any difference (other than the spring rate) at high speed.

Cheers

Nice stuff SM - what software/cam package are you using that shows the telemetry data, etc?

Looking forward to your feedback on the springs as well!
