Your postings have been excellent , and I thank you. Best of luck.
You make a very good point about the resale value. I try not to do anything irreversible (except maybe in the present case with the wings that would leave 4 small holes in the OEM spoiler, but this can be easily fixed) and meticulously keep all of the OEM parts I remove.
I have been there before it it cost me ~$1k in labor to get the car back to stock. I then resell aftermarket parts on forums or eBay...
I take a lot of care of the car -even if I track it-, so I do not think that anyone who would buy it from me would get a bad deal.

Understood- in a similar vein, I once owned a Mercedes S550 with a roof-top oil painting of 'yours truly' as well as 3 original paintings emblazoned on each headrest (the fourth was stolen and sold on the black market for, I imagine, many millions).

To cut a long story short, I sold the car for $63,000 and the paintings for $7,373,471.06.

So, in closing, you are right- extras can add to the value in the end..........

(PS edit- I have no idea how to add smilies.)

I received more pics from the last Barber track weekend. Thought I would share. Maybe I am narcissist or exhibitionist... or maybe both

And just for stating the obvious, the 991S is faster than:

a 993 Targa

a 997S

an M3

or a F360

Not bragging here, those are just a few examples of how fast the car can be without breaking a sweat. The driver has a lot of fun but this car makes his life easy and makes him look way better than he is

Thumbs up 991s

You'll have no regrets on the 991, I just spent the day at the prosche driving school and we drove the 991S, new '13 Boxster S, and cayman black and all were amazing...the 991 was phenomenal on the track. The surprise for me was the new Boxster, what a machine that was...

The 991S was faster than most cars that day 'on paper' and it just confirmed it was the case. Now I am sure that if you put any driver of the Advanced group into any of these other cars, he will be faster than me in the 991S!!
The only serious competition for the 991S in my group were a 997TT (faster in straights, but did not keep up with the 991S in the turns) and a tuned Corvette...that lost all of her cooling fluids on the track. No GT3's, GT3RS's that day (it was a BMW event)

Around 1:48 with light traffic and worn out brakes and tires. I should be able to shave a few more seconds with the new BBK and track tires next time. Still, not an impressive time when you think that race prepped cars with an experienced driver can do 1:30

That's what I read about the new Boxster too! I'll definitely give it a spin in July. Since you were at the Porsche school recently, you probably saw that they had a few new Bosxter painted in nice 'historical' themes. Very nice

It seemed long before Barber last Friday, now it's really painfully long

SM-ATL,
Thats a great lap time. I was at the PCA DE last weekend and only a few GT3s in the advanced group did anything like 1.45s there. In my stock 997.1, I did 1.59 before my instructor asked me to slow down. You are obvioulsy driving that car well. I would love to see a track video of one of your fast laps. Good luck..get faster and report bck.

I am getting back to Barber for the next PCA DE and possibly for one of the Rezoom events.

Track goodies

Bought a few more track goodies these last days. Nothing really spectacular, so from the least impressive to the most useful:

Red RS center caps for the track wheels. OK my car is not an RS and no Porsche amateur would be fooled anyhow, but just like the way it looks
http://www.flickr.com/photos/60293300@N06/7426767728/
Tire totes. Available online from Suncoast. Very inexpensive, practical and looks OK. Makes it easier to store your wheels and to take to the track in your trunk (not in a 911 trunk of course) without scuffing them.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/60293300@N06/7426766438/
New Stilo ST4 replacing my ugly, heavy and cheapo Racequip helmet.
Very snug and light. Definitely a big improvement but may feel too tight for some.

Also got a few other things that will make my life easier (impact wrench on battery, infrared thermometer, etc.)

Hope to see you there soon!
Here's a video I just posted on Youtube.

Not super fast (~1:54) but I edited it because I was following a friend in his black 997 TT. The Turbo really pulls hard in the straights, but the 991S chassis does a decent job in the turns

Great video. Thanks. Yes, the 991S seems super composed in places where my 997.1 would begin to twitch...espacially noticeable in those fast chicanes in the back.

Hey hopefully, will run into each other at Barber sometime soon.

Great video!!! It was clear that the TT had it in the straights and the 991 had bid advantages braking late and in the turns. Now I'm wondering if the base would also beat the TT.

ChuckJ
PS: Anyone taking bets on the time it takes the TT guy to buy a 991?
