Just received pictures of the (very) wet track day at Atlanta Motorsportspark last week.
A little anxious before getting on the wet track...
Slow traffic, two 991's
More rain
A lot more rain
Red cars are faster
Overall the track day was a great experience to improve driving skills in bad weather. What started as bad news (the track day was the only rainy day that week) ended up being a lot of fun.

BMC air filter
Here we go again with a +0.5 hp/+0.5 dB mod. What is the point of being sarcastic since it is the SECOND time that I do this mod on this thread (first time was post #442 on page 30) ?
First, I like mods that I can do myself, second, even if the benefit can hardly be quantified, it can do no harm and you have a (little) bit more sound.
You will need to remove the rear bumper to get access to the airbox. To do this, you'll have to lift/jack the back of the car so that you can remove both wheels.
r
You will get access to the top screws by lifting the wing (if powered or by removing the 2 screws under the engine lid and popping out the ducktail/fixed wing).
Just do not rush things and check that you are not forgetting any screws. You will first remove the taillights, then go around the bumper and remove all the screws you see. Do not forget the 3 screws in each wheel arch. When you are ready to remove the bumper, pull gently and make sure you do not tear off the license plate lighting power cable.
Open the air box, swap the filters and reassemble.
Stock filters:
BMC filters:
Be patient again when you put the bumper back in place, you want to make sure that it remains well aligned and flush with the body of the car.
Done in 60 to 75 minutes in total.
Enjoy!

TPMS works well, but having your pressure gauge and cigarette lighter powered inflator comes handy (unless you are there with friends who have serious equipment).
Enjoy your track day. You will love the 991 on the track

Totally unrestrained, but just left it there rather than disconnect the rear brake light wire.

Two major technology disappointments this week end...
GoPro Hero3
...
Escort Live Service
There also, Escort just released an updated version of its Escort Live app for the iPhone. I wanted to try it before I invested in the bluetooth accessory and I did well. The "new" app is not even adapted to the iPhone 5 (still the iPhone 4 screen size) and the in-app purchase of the Live service (live warnings for speed traps etc.) is a complete fiasco (error messages, requires to enter the iTunes store password each time you start the app...). Escort blames it on Apple. I do not care, they are the ones who are marketing a 'solution' that does not work.
My advice is to stay away from those products for now, they do not seem to be mature yet and I find it a shame that two companies leaders in their segments to have launched such poor/unfinished products

Despite my initial disappointment, I kept trying the Escort Live app on my iPhone. After a couple of days, the error messages, constant request to enter a password, etc. mysteriously stopped I did not do anything to fix the issue though, but it looks like it got resolved at the same time I received the email confirmation of the iTunes in-app purchase of the Live service.
For the last few days, I have been going back and forth between Escort Live and Waze (gave up on Trapster, interface is too hideous ) and I did a quick comparison this morning around 8:30 AM. The following pics show a zoomed out map with cop alerts on Escort Live and Waze for Northern Atlanta:
Escort Live:
Waze
If anything, this seems to indicate that Escort Live already has a good rate of adoption in a large metro area like Atlanta.
I'll continue testing the apps during longer trips in more rural area's...

Serge, I'm very interested in escort live. Questions:
1. every time the detector catches a radar signal, does it transmit it to the app by itself or you need to push the button manually?
2. If your phone is connected via Bluetooth to your PCM at the same time, any activities on the app interrupt sounds playing via PCM (music etc)?
3. How effective this app is really? Has it helped you slow down and actually seeing cop in that area?
4. How well the speed limit function works? Isn't it redundant given PCM nav has this feature already?
I'm assuming your phone needs to be in front of you all the time...that's a distraction while driving IMO.
Thanks again for sharing your experience!

1. Yes, but you need to have the bluetooth 'Smartcord Live'. I do not (yet? TBD). You will need to push the button manually for speed traps if the detector does not pick a signal though (fairly easy).
2. Yes, warnings from the app will play through PCM, so you do not need to watch your phone all the time.
3. That's the best question. If the app would only report radars/lasers detected by your Escort device, what is the point? You will eventually detect them yourself like other people did. It can help if you do not have a laser jammer as in this case, it is always too late when the detector alert goes off. So if your car is already equipped with a good detector and jammer, the real benefit of the system is to get warnings about speed traps that are more difficult to detect and to increase your awareness about the presence of LEO's in your area. I personally consider it as a 3rd backup system (in order of priority: 1 - my eyes, 2 - the Escort 9500ix, 3 - Blinder Laser Jammer, 4 - Escort Live)
4. Speed limit works OK but is 100% redundant with PCM (they either both know the speed limit or not).
Here is a pic of my setup. I do not look at it when I drive unless there is an alert or I want to report something. I have only used it for a few days, so it did not save me from any ticket so far, but at $4-5 per month, it is OK as an extra precaution (I would never rely on the app only without my detector).
Hope it helped a bit. I'll report again when I have had more seat time with the app.

PCM and smartphone messages
I have given up a while ago to try to make the PCM messaging system work with my iPhone 5. The best I could get was to have Text messages displayed, but then, even the sender's name would not appear on the screen. Pointless.
Every once in a while, I would 'test drive' a new smartphone to check if there is no better alternative to the iPhone. My last attempt was with an HTC Droid DNA. The iPhone is still a far more effective device for professional use, so I am staying with Apple for now. The positive though is that all the PCM functionalities worked perfectly, especially:
-bluetooth connection with aHa radio
-Text and Email message alerts and display on the PCM screen
Now, reading your text messages or email on the PCM screen requires to push a few buttons and will be very distracting. It would make sense if there was a 'text to speech' function, but it will probably be only available in 2023 on the PCM7.1... and your smartphone can already do it!
I just wanted to let other iPhone owners that PCM works, just not with the 'market leader' smartphone

Look forward to more input on this topic as you gain more experience...BTW, how you're using this without smartcord live???
Also, what kind of iphone5 holder you're using? It looks useful
