terrific write up waxer...

i wonder why so many people dont like the 991 ... why would you be so interested in personal reviews or truly first hand exp. in the 991 forum

As I have written in other posts your skill as a driver makes you someone who can appreciate the performance of the 991. For others, like me, who dont have the skill its an easy car to drive that feels more like a GT car.
But it's not that we don't like it or won't own one some day.
Some of us feel that it lacks some driving characteristics of our 997's. Now that is not necessarily a bad thing and because we say that we are not "envious monkeys."
And we are not alone. I follow the other forum as Waxer mentioned and there is more division there. And the EVO review is another example.
I don't hate the car and I am happy for anyone who owns one. Its a porsche. Whats not to be happy about.
And why are we here? Because I have an interest in where Porsche is going. I still may get one as a DD and this is the evolution of the iconic brand of the company. Of course I have an interest.

Waxer ... i think its great you love the GTS! i have driven and owned several 997s 996s 993 964's .. the 991 has performed more than expected.. I cant believe the feel of the car,, i hope you get the chance yo drive a 991 on the track! i know it was awesome today the back end hanging out at ove 100 mph it was balanced and strong @ 146 mp it was stable not the jittery wandering of the 997,,, braking under full threshold was straight and strong not wavering...
Is there an improvement in stablity in the 991 chassis at the upper limits? I'm sure. I hope there would be anyway.
I expect the next gen GT3 991 to be a stellar performer.
Cheers.

Last I checked this thread was all about a comparison between teh 997 GTS and the new 991S. I provided my comparison from personal behind the wheel impressions and in the flesh examination. I also noted my comments to counter the comments by some that indicated all 997 owners are sitting in the corner and crying in their Corn Flakes that we didn't wait for the 991. I wouldn't bet money on that one.
The pics above demonstrate the clear size difference. Whehter the growth in size is good is up to you. Just pointing out the obvious.

That's whats nice about our situation. People can choose what they want and like.
After driving the 991, I am trading my 2010 C2S (6 speed) for a 991 C2S with PDK. I have a friend who has a 2012 GTS who think totally different than you and likes the overall package of the 991 much better. When I asked him why, he said that the overall package was more cohesive, the PDK was much better/quicker and that the sound reminded him of his GT3's.
At the end of the day, these are all VERY nice cars and you cannot go wrong with any of them. It's like the difference betweem coke and pepsi.

different strokes...well said.
What I find interesting and I dont disagree with anyone who posts that the 991 PDK is better (since I don't have it in my car) is how many buyers would have guessed that the PDK in the 991 would be so much better than the 997.2 PDK.
I never heard anything but praise for the PDK in the 997.2.
This is what separate Porsche from others. They strive to improve whats great already.

i love the butt dynos. You guys can really feel the quicker .1 of a sec on a PDK that is mostly the same? Same with the handling. I say screw trying to justify getting a 991 and just say you want the latest and greatest.

you love it...you have stated that many times in many posts and thats great.

I am sure that at the edge of the evelope there are performance differences. With each generation Porsche has improved the breed. I've never, however, seen any write up describing a 997 as jittery at 150mph nor braking described as wandering. In fact braking has always been a Porsche strong point. The 997 is clearly capable of much more without even going to GTS, GT3, Turbo, GT2, GT3RS, GT3 RS 4.0. "Jittery" was not a problem from my reading with 997s. Did I miss something?
Is there an improvement in stablity in the 991 chassis at the upper limits? I'm sure. I hope there would be anyway.
I expect the next gen GT3 991 to be a stellar performer.
Cheers.

i am just saying the 997 would wander on the straights at 145+ under hard braking or cresting the hump at VIR.. this is based on 50+ track sessions.. I did add rear toe in and front toe out .. as well as full camber to dial out.. just saying the new car out of the box was more planted and stable..it was as stable as my 997 gen 2 GT3 out of the box .. I dont want to say it was better or any more just saying the car was more planted and felt more stable.. . I will say my favorite car was the 996 GT3 .. i Tangled with several today, with slicks , roll bars brakes alignment etc.. and i felt like the car held its own.. I theink that is the fact ... whatever EVO or any other mag has to say.. I loved my GTS loved the GT3's .. this is not a race car or a track car .. just a great step in sports car development!
I am not arguing for or against i just like the the new gen, just like i liked the new GT3 ..

I didn't say I don't like the 991. I do like it. I just don't like it as much as my GTS and have what I believe are my legitimate criticisms of it. But in the end it is a Porsche and a beautiful car that has extended the performance envelope.
