Ahhh 997 GTS vs. 991 C2S
#181
I saw and test drove the 991 in person today at my local dealership. Beautiful lines and great performer - very well polished!
However in my opinion... to a Porsche/car enthusiast, they will be able to distinguish the difference between 997/991 but everyone else, it's going to look just like another "new" Porsche.
I just purchased a "new" 2008 Targa 4S w/4.5K miles (coming from a M3) and I LOVE IT. Great performance, practicality with the hatch, and very comfortable to use as a daily driver. Honestly, I couldn't justify spending twice as much to get the 991 (and without AWD) even if I had the money. If I was to spend $120K, I would wait to get a lightly used 991 C4S or Turbo!
I will admire every 991 I see on the streets and 991 iterations to come. Congrats to those who bought one - they're beautiful! But with that said, I will have the biggest grin knowing that I got the car of my dreams for half of the price of a new 2012! Wooohooo!
See attached picture! Whats not to love?

It took me weeks for me to finally decide on a 991 over a 997 GTS. I had a such a hard time because while I liked the looks and the feel of the 997 more, it just didn't make a financial sense for me to get a previous gen car for about the same price (~$10k) as the new gen.
Anyway, I have ordered a 991 for September delivery, but I can't stop thinking about that 997 and those centerlock wheels! I might have to look for a used 997 now as well... Can anyone suggest me a good place to look for used 911s besides the dealership?

930Man: I have not tracked my GTS at all. One day. So right now I cannot speak to the questions you have. Others have especially on Renn List. Overall verdict from most on Rennlist is the car is great and nearly there with the GT3 but more practical for a DD.
I will be waiting to see the 991 GT3. It will be on my radar for sure. I didn't know you could order them already? Thats interesting. What do they list at?

Center locks are great. Super cool look. They are not a pain in the **** at all to get off. It's called Porsche Road Side service.

I know dealers are not shy about taking money but taking a deposit this early before the GT3 are even announced seems a little overreaching on their part.
Just say'n.

Interesting little bit from the boys at Top Gear. Kinda echo's my sentiments on the 997 GTS.

Saw a black GTS purring or should I say...snarl... by a few minutes ago. Awesome looking and sounding. It's a keeper!!

As per article:
We like: Best value 911 you can buy today
We don't like: Probably won't be by tomorrow
TopGear verdict: A bona fide bargain. Sport Classic performance for two grand more than a Carrera S

Ouch!
They said that about the Shelby Cobra and GT40 too. So I'd say the GTS is in pretty good company.
