Well maybe i'm just one in a cast of thousands/millions that interpreted that as meaning whatever GTS represented today won't mean much against the new to be released car when it hits deck.

Mind you, if the new 991 is now touted as being as fast as a GT3.2 around nurburgring i think thats "nuff said" wouldn't you? Or is that idiotic and whimsical?

what was the GTS time with the same driver on the ring?

When you get that we can talk comparative value...which is what we are discussing.

You changed it to performance discussion with the GTS not meaning much. And of course you used one data point..the ring time of the 991S...with PDCC.

Take a 911 GTS and add $4000-5000 in stability/suspension mods...can it match the 991 with the same driver? Can it come close?

C'mon. You can't be serious . We are talking Walter/Porsche here...not just some johnny come lately driver who thought he could come up with a throwaway line that the new car can do that vs the 997 Gt3.

Thats exactly my point. Give him an GTS with some or without suspension mods andgive me the time difference and then I will tell you if the value is in the GTS or not.

Your basing it on performance only and as we have discussed many times in this forum the 991 destroys ( the GTS.

But I'm not discussing performance as the sole criteria for value, although you are.

Seals an allocation for you. A good move since they should sell out quickly.

No, what are you talking about. I changed nothing. The quote i copy pasted had no ambiguity to the obvious reader. It was very easy to interpret. And no one is discounting the fact the GTS was not a great car for its time.

And the ring as the data point? Well isn't that todays measuring yard stick for the actual level of performance? Are you saying a Walmart carpark is a better venue?

And would it matter what it (991) had? The bottom line is the GTS, nor any 997 for that matter simply doesn't possess the newer more highly developed chassis, w/wo PDCC. And for that matter why waste money trying to turn something into something else that at the end of the day will never be the new car anyway. The costs associated would never be recoverable. Its a bit like trying to make a silk purse out of a pigs ear isn't it. I mean why bother when the silk is available?

Looking at the physics, the longer wheelbase, wider track, lighter weight, higher power, more even weight distribution, and lower CG (?) of the 991 all suggest that it should have a higher performance limit on the track (ie, faster lap times). The numbers seem to show that I does, and my own test drives on public roads indicate the same.

But then we need to remember that the typical enthusiast will mostly do spirited driving on public roads, maybe combined with some track use (but still well below the car's limits most of the time). It's not clear to me that the 991 delivers a superior experience for that kind of driving. Personally, I like some bobbing of the front end, feeling of rear weight bias, lively steering wheel, etc.

Ultimately this 997 vs 991 is a futile argument. The newer car is better or Porsche has failed in its core area of expertise.

OK Let me put this to you 997 die hards. If someone offered you a choice between a brand spanking new fully optioned 997S (or GTS) and a brand spanking new fully optioned 991S for free, which one would you take????? And you knew the 997 was a 7 year old platform as you also knew the 991 was the platform for the next 7 years. Both cars same colour inside and out. Both manual or, both PDK.

C'mon now,.. lets hear some honesty. Be brave boys.

SOSDD

You brought up the ring time and the performance, not me.

I'm not getting dragged into it with you again. Not worth my time.

Years ago we berated guys for mentioning 0-60 times from other brands.

Now it's all about the numbers.
