991 base with 20'' wheels for daily use
#17
I have ordered a base model with Carrera S wheels without PASM. I have MS and my nerves get spun up with high frequency vibrations so I’m concerned about your point (above). I have respect for your inputs so I would like to peal the onion back a little on your statement to see if I have put myself in a corner on this one. The base chassis has a spring rate of 48 N/mm where the S has a 62N/mm. Why wouldn’t the reduced spring rate coupled with the comfort pressure settings make the ride quality acceptable?

I wouldn't do it. One of the reasons I ordered a base car was for the 19" wheels. I would have gone 18" if it was an option. Daily driving on New York streets can be brutal, not to mention curb rash. Now if you're in Holland...No problem on 20". The dutch have never seen a bad road.

"Chassis-wise things are clearer cut. The 3.8 has PASM adaptive dampers as standard, which obviously gives you a choice of Comfort and Sport settings, but the 3.4 on ist sweetly judged passive set-up feeles lighter, brighter and more faithful than the 3.8, certainly when the latter is fitted with the optional PDCC active anti-roll system."
You should therefore be ok, even with 20'' wheels.

In the recent EVO Car Magazine report "NEW 911 - THE DEFINITIVE TEST" test they compare the 991 to the 991S und state:
