Who's Ordered a 991... Opinions Please!

I've been a Porsche enthusiast since 2, however I'm having a really hard time justifying the evolution of the 991 vs. the 997. Going from a 964 to 993, I can see it and feel it, 993 to 996, 996 to 997, all seem to have a huge progression. I'm not going to digress into earlier models. But the 997 to 991, seems like an evolution in electronics. I'm a petrol head, I like the feel and vibration of the engine. I've drove a 991, I'm not one of those guys that say the 911 died with the 993, but what made you guys make the leap? Perhaps I'm missing something.

I've been thinking about an upgrade, but I'm having a hard time justifying a 991 versus waiting for a 992? I do throughly enjoy my 997, even though it likes to snack on oil

i have a 997.2 carrera S and GT3. I barely drive my 997C2S anymore since I got the 991. Everything is better. It doesn't take the place of a GT3 though. It completely dated the 997. Since you have an older one, it is light years ahead. If you have the scratch treat yourself, just make sure you order with PSE. Tuners will try but will never accomplish the sound Porsche has. and you wont have to put 20's on this one, because it already has them!

I just received mine a week ago. What a wonderful car! Sport high performance, luxury, evryday use-perfect, elegant and stylish, a classic. Perfectly crafted with the best materials...and more, it's a Carrera.

Are You still thinkin' about it?

Well, S version, of course.

My 991 CS is the best car I've ever owned. And I've owned a few cars. (mine is a $132k buildout)

(I will say that after 2 months and 1000 miles - I would sell this car and re-order if I didn't get PSE. It's intoxicating. Don't be one of those guys who thinks that the 991 stock exhaust sounds like the 997 with PSE. That's a myth. I've owned both a 997.2 and a 991. PSE is ESSENTIAL)

With all due respect to EricP, I did not get PSE and I don't miss it. I have an 8 cylinder Mustang with a modified exhaust and no 6 cylinder sounds as good, PSE or not. I heard the 991 with and without and that was $2,000.00 I invested in other options. If money was no object ( my build was about $128 K) EricP is right, it does sound great and it is a nice feature that you can switch it on and off, but the 991 sounds great without it, IMO.

Other than that, I agree with EricP, best sports car and best all around I have ever owned. What turned me on so much is the Jeckel and Hyde features, very fast luxury sport when you are running to the store, and mad machine in sport plus - its like having two cars in one. Despite or in light of comparisons to Panamera interior, and despite screwy keyless entry/ignition and strange ergonomic placement of controls, and the Masters in programming needed to figure out all of its features, it is. Great car.

Hi pratas!
U can see my 991C2S in the pictures sticky topic: white ext. with Black\Platinum Grey Full Leather interior.

I have to say that it's a GREAT car (as i sayed before). Just 2 little things.

I have to say the building of mine is not as perfect as i thought: i have a very frustrating BRZZZZ in my left side door (when you take little holes there is a BRZZZ-BRZZ noise)...hope my dealer will fix it the 10Th of april.

Second, The function that put the side mirror down for parking maneuvres doesn't works..! Yes, u can switch it on in the PCM, but when u insert retro the right mirror DOESN'T move at all!

I didn't expected this 2 things from PORSCHE. Anyway...let's hope my dealer will fix.

Other than that, a WONDERFUL CAR. And on 17Th of april i'll be ON TRACK.

Then i'll really let u know the true potential of this car!

No offense intended - I just wanted to point out that 991 minus PSE is not like 997 with PSE.

I'm just infatuated with the back gurgling of the PSE. Another interesting thing we've noticed (myself, SpikeP/Neelan) is that PSE and PSE under SPORT mode sounds different. PSE when sport isn't on don't have much back gurgling - and that effect is enhanced when the car is very warmed up. i.e. you can't pull out of you driveway and down your street at 4k RPM, take your foot off and have the popping rumble.

cheers.

Hi EricP. No offense was taken. Your opinion is every bit as valid as mine, and given your experience, maybe more so. It is just that in my opinion, the 991 sounds great without PSE (I'm sure it sounds better with it). It is an expense given it does not seem to improve actual performance. Again, this is just my opinion.

I think original 991 S Sound is gorgeous...i wander how good is with PSE.

I decided not to have it only because of 2 reasons:

1 - Because if u have a too much loud car, in Italy, people look at u like you're a Mafia Boss.

2 -Because it's not so cheap to have only a sound improvement like that.

Anyway, really, i'm thinkin' to put it on later on...PSE sounds really good.

Good.

And if you change your mind later PSE or an aftermaket Tubi or similar can certainly be added - and yes, the 991 sounds good period. With or without.

cheers

Hi EricP

I were in the show room last week to check the baby seat. My dealer told me that when you open the sunroof the spoiler will rise up. I did not see any information about this but I remembered somewhere indicated that the sunroof will change the angle of the spoiler. Since your car come with sunroof, have you experience anything regarding the spoiler things?

I guess it might be some sort of local setting. The spoiler will rise up when the speed above 75 mph in US, but in HK setting the spoiler will rise up at 90km/h (around 55 mph)
