Why "991 Carrera S ?"
I am wondering, why would Porsche put the entire "911 Carrera S" letters to designate the 991?
Ooops... this was meant as a question to someone and not a new thread. Dunno how to delete a new topic here...

Focus groups yo...marketing dictated.
They're pimping their "everyday sportscar" to soccer moms, non car folks and anybody else who wants to buy a $100k car.
So marketing 101 dictates the product be clearly labeled - for the lowest denominator consumer...
They know nothing about 3.2, 964, 993, 996, 987, 955 etc...

it had to be a late decision as a lot of the marketing brochures and other earleir pictures did not have the 911 part.
i think they should have just added the 911 part to their newer world markets where the knowledge is understandably less.

Porsche could drop the Carrera altogether and make it 911, 911 S, 911 GT3, 911 4, 911 4S, 911 GT3 RS, 911 3T (turbo ), 911 3TS, 911 GT2, 911 GTS 4,...,... Do targas and cabs need their own designation?
Coming up with names for the 20-25 models can't be that easy.
By the way, Origin of carerra: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrera_Panamericana

Can anyone confirm that if you go with just the "911" model designation and if you purchased the 911S, you would indeed get "911S" on the back? I wouldn't want to order a 911S and only have it say 911. Basically, I'd want it to say "PORSCHE 911S" minus the Carrera part.
Not that all this really matters but personal taste I guess.
