He tried to sell it to me for 60K, I offered him 70K and we argued for a while. He finally agreed to 65K, I gave him a check for 67K. Best Car I have ever driven to date! I ended up trading the car for a dog (long story) but now I really want to get a 991. Nothing fancy, just a coupe, manual tranny.
If I get the base model, am I going to be kicking myself for not getting the extra 50 HP of the S? Are there any other practical differences I would notice driving the S such as “feel” or sound?
Thanks much for your comments.

The fact that you are asking this question suggests you are a base person. Most who order an S have no doubt as to what they they want. We have on this forum a base 911 police who will be happy to welcome you to their club. BTW there is also a manual tranny police, that club also open for membership. Good luck with your purchase and enjoy what ever you get.

There are also people on here who have an opinion on everything, but don't really know much.

classic post!

Back to the OP - decision between base and S is purely a money question, nothing more, nothing less.

When the X51 powerkit comes out next year, people will ask again whether to get it or not. Again, a money question.

Base 991 is more than enough car for anyone here for street driving, period.

Is the S better? Sure. It is worth the extra money? Only you can answer that.

Certainly nothing wrong with the base car, but I think I would rather have the S, especially since the engine displacement on the base car is down to 3.4 liters.

Just curious about the purchase of your 997 cab. You stated that the original owner tried to sell you the car for 60K, but you offered 70K, then settled on 65K? Is that a typo?

You hit it on the head. If only the 911 base police would agree with that. Instead they take a holier than thou position and pretend to know more than others.

The extent to which the police defends the base, if only that energy were spent to just earn the xtra bucks they would be better off getting the S.

To the OP, you will have plenty of friends here in case you decide to go base, many are here already on this thread. You won't find many S proponents chiming in because they don't see it worthwhile to have a mud slinging match with the militants. I am the only one crazy enough to take them on. Let's face it you won't get many unbiased opinions on here, best to just ask your friend or drive both to see the difference, also try with PSE and without.

Ok, I see a backlash coming from the hurt souls, but some times it's just best to call a spade a spade. I will ignore the cry baby backlash, but to those who are offended, I will in advance say that I am sorry!!

Blah, blah, blah.

Did you learn what type of engine the 991 has yet?

I don't care about what type of engine it is. I got done with school a long time ago to bother with such trivia. But I feel like I am so much better of a person knowing that it is a flat 6 engine not a V. Haha, ya right.

But I already have 3800 km under the belt so far with the 991 engine so at this point in time I know more about how it drives than you.

I know you have been embarrassed in front of everyone here before (in spectacular fashion, I might add.) It really was extremely amusing, though you may have been under the impression that people were laughing with you rather than at you. If so, you were wrong.

Why don't you pipe down and learn a little more before spouting off?

You continuously talk about how much better the S is, yet you have not driven a C2. How can you compare two things if you have no experience of one of them? I don't understand how you can come to any thread that talks about the C2 vs the C2S and state definitively that the C2S is the better choice.

I seem to recall you inferring that your 991 is basically the sum total experience of Porsche driving. Have you driven a 997? a 996? a 993? a 964? a 987? a 944? a 968? a 914? Do you even know what these cars look like?

You have close to no Porsche experience except for a few thousand KM in your new car. You have also done an admiral job of demonstrating that your mechanical knowledge is null.

Why on earth would you think that you are well placed to advise people on which car to pick?

And the piece about needing to work harder to afford the C2S? Really? You think anyone who can afford a 991 C2 couldn't stretch the extra ~10% to buy the C2S?

It would appear there are worse things you could do than go back to school to take some classes on logic and economics.

Blah Blah Blah. Total BS! from a hurting ego.

Just grow up.

And OP, there you have it, your potential new friends, nothing less than the hezbollah right?
Think about it, if the base were plenty for most, porsche executives would be quite a bunch of idiots to offer an S, right? In fact they would be outright insane to offer the turbo then ? Let's commit them all to a mental institution.

And sapster, if you can't take my posts, just ignore them, just as I have been ignoring yours for a while. And I hope you enjoy your base cab, and not look a plonker in it. This post is certainly making you look one.

Trust me, I have tried, but there is only so much misinformed blathering one can take.

If you make idiotic statements and take illogical positions repeatedly, don't be surprised if you are treated accordingly.

BoDiamond is infamous around these parts
The Dog

Short version of the story. I was living in a 1 bedroom apt at Santana Row (San Jose, CA). Then I met this girl, girl had a dog. Girl turns out to be the girl I have been searching for all my life and had given up finding. Dog has some serious medical problems. I adopt the dog along with the girl and they both move in to my 1 bedroom. I don't know how much a Bugatti Veyron costs to maintain but I would be surprised if it costs more than this dog. Apartment manager gets wind of the dog and sends letter to get rid of the dog or move to one of their dog friendly condos for another $2K a month. My girl is crying, the dog is looking up me wagging it tail...crap. So I move to the Condo. I'm at OSH hardware in the bolts/screws isle and thoughts are creeping into the back of my mind "I need to cut costs"... Then this guy walks up to me and says "I saw you drive up, what a beautiful car (997 cab) I was thinking of getting one just like it." "I'll sell you mine" I replied. Done deal, car gone just like that.

I never thought I traded the car for a dog until my girl's mom told my girl "He sold the car to pay for your dog you know" The my girl asked me "is that true?" I told her "no I never really liked that car, I was planning to get rid of it."

someone ratted me out for the dog but the strange thing is no one seemed to care that I brought my Ducati up the elevator to my apartment every day. Manager even saw me one time and I'm thinking "Oh crap" but he did not say a word.

Dog died about a year later but you can't say I didn't try.
