991 Base Model or "S"

I don't know why anyone would get the base car. If I was going to get a base, I would wait and get a new Cayman S.

not 991
I own a base 997 carrera and a S boxster...I would take the carrera hands down if I could only have one.

The base is more than enough car for almost everyone.
If you buy a base what you must be able to do is block out views of a few posters here that are...how can i say it properly.... are performance and driving skill experience lacking.
Some reviewers and owners think the base is a better driving car since you need to be engaged with it more..others think its not worth the efforts to be engaged.
good luck with whatever you choose.

I test-drove each several times, in both PDK and MT. Went with a base MT and couldn't be happier.

Drove them both back to back. If you are in the market, you should do the same instead of listening to the drivle here. They seem to have different characters, a lot like the base and S 997. The torque of the S seems more noticable below 4k RPM and the exhaust note is much more enticing. The base will rev and gives you good value, but as some reviews have said, it seems to need more RPM to be entertaining. Drive them both and make an educated decision you won't regret. Either would be great to own - the suspension is amazing.
