Drove a 991S (finally) and feel confused

Per my VBOX:
Porsche said 4.4 or 4.1 sec for the CTT, I was only able to get 4.5 with it an ecu tune and bypass pipes (extra 90hp/tq).
My C2S with a lot of mods like yours I got a 3.6 and many 3.7's , and porsche said 4.1.
The 991S would be at least .5 sec faster then my modified CTT.

So i used their numbers on their cars comparing their MSRP prices on two very different vehicles .
The fact that they make an SUV that's equally priced with this peformance figure so close that we can even discuss it --places a lot of praise on the Cayenne but raises some doubts on the 991.

if you can get almost 20% off a new 991 right now, I would be doubtful.

the info didn't state the mileage nor the status other than New 991s. It may be a test mule from the intro ? The point is that there are units stacked on the lots on the East Coast. Note the dip in the data:
US 911 sales (goodcarbadcar.net)
January '10 503 '11 436 '12 681
February '10 339 '11 405 '12 858
March '10 615 '11 609 '12 465

I have noticed that there is some inventory of vehicles (not cabs really) and most dealerships will negotiate between 2-5% off the MSRP.
I don't think it's some overloaded inventory though, most of the cars on the lot are not well optioned.
There was a white coupe I was interested in that had been sitting on the dealer's lot since January...that lone sort of turned me off to it, who knows how many times it had been test driven.

If I keep the 09 car it will be worth less in a year though and the car I would be ordering is a 2013 . (4 model years newer even though my car has more than 1 year of warranty) .
Yet my 997.2S is so nice .. so it boils down to is the new car a want or a need ? It's clearly a want but its not even a thrilled want because the price increase of the new car is high enough to price out logic of a trading the old . Plus the old car is really that good !!!
In contrast if this was the days of the 996 I woild have wanted to trade in BOTH a 996 and 996 Turbo to have the new Carerra S in 05 and look at how great that car was then only to be a "car to avoid" now (RMS and IMS etc) .
I began to think .. is this car the next Porsche icon ?
I don't think it will be . i think its just the next step for porsche and I am not even sure it's in the right direction.
I am tired . No car deal as of today.

Ha! My thoughts exactly. My dealer is being very very snub nose on any negotiations.

So they are selling the car at $8000 below invoice? On a brand new car, not a demo with miles? I will tell my manager to purchase the car and truck it out here for us to sell. My dealership has one car in stock and we are now taking orders on 2013 models. $1000 discount only.....not $20K. As for the speed of the 991S it is almost as quick as the 2007 turbo and is a much faster car than the 2011 GTS model:
2012 991 S PDK:
0-60mph 3.5 seconds
0-100mph 8.4 seconds
1/4 mile 11.8@118.5mph

That's flippin' fast!

yrralis - good review and nice to see your open mind given some of your musing s on the 991 over the last while.
it seems that driving the 991 is a little transformative!
any comments on the engine sound(s)? i was pretty blown away by the sounds in my "around the block" test i had last week.

I have the FVD exhaust in my 09 car and the Tubi race exhaust in my Turbo so I viewed the 991s stock exhaust as quite tame in contrast .
It's been very hard to try and buy a more expensive 997S while taking the depreciation hit on my 09 car while clinging to my highly modded Turbo (I love that car) .
Part of me thinks its silly and expensive .
I wrestle with this a lot .
