Porsche 991 - Why Cover the Entire Car?

This client, lives in one of the busiest area in the country - San Francisco City. This means parking the vehicle anywhere can easily mean scratches, dings, and even vandalism. Here's an example of how paint protection film (clear bra / clearguard / stoneguard) can save your OEM paint:

Moving on to the installation photos

That looks very nice. What are some of the differences, advantages, and disadvantages between the films used today? Looks like you are using ClearGuard. I've heard of Xpel, Avery, Ventureshield, 3M, and I am sure there are others. Also, on a new car install, what kind of preparation do you do, or do you recommend be done prior to installation?

We use what we believe to be most durable and clear on the market. As for the prep, we wash / clay the surface to remove contaminants. Not really necessary to have the vehicle "prepped" from a detailing standpoint as the film would hide surface flaws.

Paint protection film is not a science...it's really an art / craft. This is why some are opposed to it while others believe in it whole heartedly. Those who dislike may have seen a bad installation or a partial application where the line is visible. Installation is such an integral part that the results can be night and day between companies. Pick the right guy to do it and the results will be "clear".

My car has a clear bra and it does have a line across the the fenders and front lid. Are you saying it can be done without that line?

That's correct! Several limitations when it comes to doing full panels:

1. the installer must be capable
2. have the film in the right size
3. if they are a precut installer, they must have a machine large enough to plot it out
4. for bulk sheet application, it takes skill to perform it correctly - back to item #1 above

Here is another incident in which the customer had his car keyed at Starbucks. The entire front end was protected (full hood, full fenders, bumper), so there was no damage to those areas, but the doors and beyond were keyed down to the primer.

Some have asked why we post pictures that essentially do not show anything. Our answer...it's exactly the point. Taking photos that are far away does not show the details that go into any protective film application performed by us. We prefer to show things up close for everyone to see the possibilities when it comes to paint protection film (clear bra). Now the appearance of this material will show more based on color of the vehicle's paint, but it is visible in certain lighting conditions. Naturally the darker the color of the car, the greater the variance in the texture of the product regardless of manufacturer, but for the most part - what you see in the photos would be an excellent representation in how clear bra looks in person.

So what does normal care consist of with the clear film? Do you wash the car normally? Is wax needed and if so, do you continue to use a normal automotive wax or is there something special that is needed?
