Game change on my 991 (with pics)

In the past two weeks or so I began to think about the 991 Turbo . I also have been daily driving my EVT700 Turbo which only has 13K miles . I love this car !!!! It's nice to have the extra space in my garage . I am so glad i traded in my 997S as I could never have gone a day more with it without wanting a 991S .

Beside the 997tt I do have two other cars (the 2011 M3 and 07 Honda Civic Si) . The Honda has 45K miles on it .I decided to trade in the Honda today for my first practical Porsche .. a Cayenne .

The thought of the two 911 cars and an M3 made no sense . I want to have one 911 and I want it to be the best one for my needs and there is no way I am selling my Turbo . I need to see the 991 Turbo and decided to wait and drive my EVT700 more .
I did not want to spend excesively to buy an SUV as i feel its money better saved for the next 911 (especially if it's a Turbo) .

It came down to two cayenne cars on the lot :

1) A beautifully and completelly optioned V6
or
2) A very modestly optioned V8

Drove them both and the V6 won . They cost nearly identical (the v6 actually cost 2K more !!!) .

Full two tone umber/cream leather, bose, panoramic roof , turbo wheels ,backup camera , sensors .. all the goodies .

I will still post here because I will get a 991 .. just not sure which model but it will be when my current Turbo is served its full use .

In the meantime this is the first pics of my new car to replace the Honda , I will start posting about it in the Cayenne forum .

Good choice! The new Cayenne is a fantastic vehicle, and since you already have a 911, it is a very complimentary choice. I have both a 911 and a Cayenne as well as a Panamera...it is hard not to want all the different flavors that Porsche has to offer. Each has a different use and a different emotion when driving. Sometimes I am in the mood to sit a bit higher up, and other times I want the thrust that only a Panamera Turbo can offer. Congrats and enjoy!

Love the turbo...great job.

So you have ditched the plans for the 991S to wait for the 911 turbo? And picked up a Cayenne in the mean time.

With a M3 and turbo to drive.. sounds like a good plan.

Thanks guys .. this was almost a fluke purchase . I had hurt my back and wanted to look at a larger car to replace the civic.

This question kept popping up in my mind "what if I get the 991S and love the new 991 Turbo ? " and "can i ever bring my self to sell my EVT700 ?" and "what if i just wait ?" and "but I already did place an order and wiill it inconvenience the dealership as they have treated me like family ? "

I walked in to discuss it all with them and they have my order sheet speced but it had not been sent out yet .Thry told me they woild accomodate me in any way and not to worry if i held off on the 991. While there I saw the Cayenne and decided to look at all the cayennes they had on the floor .

This one suited my needs perfectlly. It was very well equipped for a V6 (MSRP of 74) and the V6 is greatly improved over the last model. The passenger comfort and daily use features of decent mileage was most important as it was replacing a civic.

This is my first SUV ever . I'll post over in that section a bit but I will stick here too awaiting to see the 991 Turbo andgetting to use my current car .

Just a side note on my 997tt . If I had kept my 07 997tt bone stock I would have traded it in . In fact I may have even traded it in for a 997.2tt S years ago . I have to say that the Evoms tuned car is that good that i cant imagine selling it .. at least until it had many more miles . The EVT700 is the best car I ever had . I pampered it for 6 years . Now its time to drive the garage queen !!!

I have the feeling that when your EVT700 turbo has served its purpose for you, it'll find a new home very quickly.

Nice looking Cayenne. What made you go for the V6? Is it because of the options?

I'm not sure it's possible to have made a wrong decision given all of your alternatives unless you had let go of the Turbo now. This will give you a DD experience that a Porsche owner would expect from an SUV while also giving you more seat time in the Turbo. By the time the 991 Turbo comes around, the 997TT will probably be ready to find a very appreciative new owner.

All in all, it looks like you made the wise decision. Enjoy that TT for all it's worth for a year or so...

Good choice on the Cayenne. Don't rule out the 991 GT3 yet. It will compliment your collection better than having two 911 turbos.

I chose the V6 for many reasons :

1) If I optioned up the V8 with the notion that performance was the reason not to get the v6 then it wold have come so close to just buying a Turbo . If i bought a Turbo I could not afford to buy a 991 Turbo too .

2) Both my M3 and 997 Turbo are high performance cars . I figured with the Cayenne the focus would be more geared towards passenger comfort , fuel economy , and using the SUV as a "rational" vehicle . If the cayenne were my only car .. i would have bought a Turbo.

3) The V6 is greatly improved over the previous model and it's very sufficient for daily use. I did not feel it was underpowered with 300 Hp in a truck .

4) The V8 was actually cheaper by 2 grand but I really loved the options on this V6 .

So today i was siting in traffic high above the clouds compared to all my lowered cars with the ventilated seats in the hot Florida sun and this all semed quite foreign to any type of driving I have done . It was amusing !!!
I'm going to like having this car .

One more thing .. I have always rejected the satellite radio offers but today I found "hair nation" on my free system .

Thats my plan .. to finally use the garage queen . My biggest hesitation with the 991 is that the PDK in my 997S seemed so inferior compared to the new unit . It ruined my perception of my 997S . The car felt dated !!! I realize that a few 997 owners pound the pavement that its the same .. but i strongly disagree with them.

I figure that by the time the Turbo comes out this PDK unit has to be at its best . My fear is that it keeps evolving .. or that the technology evolves much faster than the rest of the car. This can make a car become dated rather quickly . I saw this occur with BMW cars but with a Porshe this can become a more expensive thing to watch.

On a side note -- a friend of mine just ordered a 458 Ferrari ( almost two year wait) and he has written me e mails describing what he feels is the best sounding and best driving car he has ever seen .

If the 991 Turbo faces a 20 percent price increase (comparable to the 991S) then the Ferrari might even be a head to head contender . That might be a very hard choice to face .

Tou know my perspective: PDK is greatly improved in the 991. No ifs, ands or buts.

I support your choice of the V6 Cayenne. I now drive a 991S Cab with all the performance options available, and had a 997 TT and a 997 GT3 before it. My wife was driving a 2008 Cayenne S with 100,000 miles on it and quite by happenstance the dealer gave me a V6 Cayenne loaner when I was having the film and radar detector installed. I loved the balanced of the V6 as compared to her 2008 V8 and we ended up buying a fully optioned V6 like you - she is very happy with it, so am I. The power is more than adequate and the electronics are comparable to the 991; that is to say 100% better than the 997s and the 2008 Cayenne S.
