PSE needed on 991
Thinking of ordering a 991. The question is, do I need PSE and sunroof? Drove a launch car last week and the exhaust sound was a LOT better than my 997 without PSE and I never use my sunroof now, and I haven't seen the new one in person. You new 991 owners can help.

All economical considerations aside, yes the PSE is a must... Or go for an aftermarket -even louder- exhaust. The have been some posts already about the new IPE exhaust that sounds really F1-ish. Going fast is today's traffic is not easy and rarely legal, and the PSE simply adds aural pleasure when you may miss some of the speed thrill.
I have the sunroof but do not use it much. Extra weight/complexity/cost for little benefit IMHO. Would not have it if it was not on the car I bought already.

Your statement is selfexplain. If you are happy with the exhaust note without PSE and you do not use sunroof. There is no reason to pay for them.
PSE only give you louder (if you want) and a little deeper tone. Sunroof will put more weight on the roof which reflect to poorer handling. So it is clear better don't have them especially if you don't use them.

The 991's Boxer engine doesn't have a real F1 sound in my opinion (the way a Ferrari might) so it seems strange to me that an aftermarket exhaust would try and make a flat-6 sound like a high revving V8 or V10.
PSE sounds amazing espescially in the overrun.

It's a boxer engine, not a Boxster engine, unless you are referring to the 3.4 liter engine in the 991 being essentially the same as the engine in the Boxster S.

Sunroof, I don't use it, so if you don't use it, skip it. Some might say it matters on resale, who knows.

Prior to the 991 I had a sunroof on every car I owned. I realized I probably used them a dozen times, if that. So I went with no sun roof. I love the sleek roof with no sunroof lines.

I *love* my sunroof and use it about 50% of the time. I was 50/50 torn between coupe and cabriolet and must say the airflow with the sunroof open is just nice. Not a cabriolet, but a very decent substitute. No buffeting and it works with side windows open or closed. Also, unlike some, I *love* how it looks and there is at least one person around here who likes the looks, too! Granted, I live in CA where it's not as hot as in some parts of TX, so YMMV as they say. Just wanted to add a "Yay" voice to the choir of "Nay"-sayers here. It definitely adds a facet to the car!
