The Luckiest Guy In The World
Well, I picked it up yesterday in San Antonio and brought it back to Dallas. IT DROVE GREAT! There were a couple of first impressions that pleasantly surprised me:
1. We got 29 MPG for the trip which was a combination of towns, stop lights and open road at 75-85. Today I took it for a 16 mile ECO run at a steady 65 MPH and got 34.1mpg.
2. I've had 15 Porsches which date back to before power steering (first 911 was a 1966). I have never had one that the steering was more connected to the road. You can feel every impression and undulation. It was more connected than my 997s. And now that I think about it I think with the electric assist it is not filtering out any feel when you are traveling straight ahead- just the rack and pinion between you and the road. This was much different than the plus I had driven. It was more like the old non assisted steering of the 901 while going straight. I only got up to .65Gs on the turns, but it also felt more in control than my 997 and much more than any of the early models with the motorcycle size tires.
3. The feel of the steering wheel is sensuous. I don't remember that feel in either of the test vehicles I drove and definitely not either 997 I had.
4. I understand what folks are saying about it shifting early and I think it's a function of the accelerator peddle having a heavier spring. Right now I'm not elated with that, but we'll see if I get used to it.
5. I LOVE the Dr. Jekylle / Mr. Hyde personality.
Looking forward to replacing the reflectors. Can anyone describe how they come off?
I truly feel blessed to be able to have a vehicle of this caliber at this time of my life.

Beautiful car! Do you mean the side markers? I replaced them on my 997 and have a pair waiting for my 991. In the 997, you just slide the lens back toward the wheel then just pull it out toward you. I assume it will be the same for the 991. If you go to Suncoast's web site they have a video.

Chuck - great news! Congratulations - beautiful color.
Replacement of the side signals - indeed as described and very simple - <2 mins each no tools needed;
happy driving.

Congrats!! Replacing the side markers was well worth the money. It was very easy. There is a video on Suncoastparts showing you how to do it.

Looks great! my favorite int/ext color combo, definetely one lucky guy.
Please post your impressions of the non PASM suspension with 20"s.
Coming from a 997S, how do you like the Base performance?
Thanks

As you probably know I'm an old grandpa and I find the ride great. There is a comfort setting for the tire pressure and I do use that. My perception is that it is just slightly more harsh than my 997S with PASM in the off mode but way more comfortable than with the PASM on.

One other pleasant surprise was that the ignition no longer has to be held in the spring loaded position to start the car. It is now just like a button start- you just turn and release and that begins an automated start sequence. I'm not particularly thrilled with how the key fits into the slot, but I'm getting used to it.

The only thing about the wait that made it less painful is that my dealer gave me a good trade-in on my 2007 997 last November and "loaned" me a 2009 997S for the 7+ months, so I enjoyed the no-deprecation period (they no longer have that program).
