I'm starting to think there is no competition. At least not in normal terms.
Any of the usual suspects (Lambo, Ferrari, Porsche, Nissan GTR, Audi R8, Jaguar XKR(-S), Maserati, etc) are each unique and will appeal to a particular person - which means each will be a favourite for somebody !

These kind of writups are valuable as most of us do not have the opportunity of driving all these cars around for hours to form our own opinions - so we get the opinions of others. Hardly surprising, you just open a different magazine and you may get different views on exactly the same cars - it is simply so subjective.

Something that may have a high value for you (for example acceleration) may have little value for somebody else who may just go on looks...

The 991 appeals due to its breadth of capabilities in more than just one arena - perhaps it is the only sports car of its kind (at the moment) which can do everything nicely. This is the main reason I chose one (and of course the fact that I always wanted a 911).
