Sports Seats (not Plus) comfort comparison: 4-way vs 14-way

I am considering a stock 2012 Cabriolet.

It doesn't have all the options I want but it does have the right color combination. PSE can always be added later. The one thing I want that cannot be retrofit is 14-way seats and the heat/ventilated options.

I had the opportunity to sit in 4-way and 14-way in the showroom floor. 14-way is clearly more desirable due to more settings but 4-way is not as bad as I had thought (comparing to the 997 standard seats). In fact, it's quite good.

I am tempted that I can bring the car with 4-way seats home next week but don't want to regret not having the 14-way seats. The other choice is July production which means MY2013 and I can get exactly what I want.

Hope to hear comments on both seats

I have the 14 way. Not sure it is same on 4 way but my only complaint is I find the bolsters by my legs to be annoying. It constricts my legs too much and I don't think there is a way to push out the bolsters.

I don't have the 14 way and my seats are comfortable even up to the .85Gs I have pulled.

No seat memory with 4 way. That's deal breaker for me - wife will drive from time to time.

In addition, no seat memory means (I believe) that the passenger side rear view mirror can not be programmed to tilt down on reverse!

On the seat alone-- If you can get comfortable in the seat I would settle as it tends to be a set it and forget it. I had 14 way or whatever in the 997 and once set never touched it again. Now I have 18 way or whatever and it is already set it and forget it. My other half doesn't even adjust the seat (except forward and back) when she rides sidecar. If the other person is a regular driver then memory would make a difference. The seat heat/vent would tend to be meaningful if you have had it before and where you live makes it a good choice. At least this was the case for me here in TX. All of this would make more of a difference for me if I was choosing CPO'd vs new; new only I would tend just order what I want because I would be paying full load and could get exactly what I want. Buyer's remorse is expensive in these cars.

Well, sometimes you need 18 way adjustments to fit you perfectly...

I had the opportunity to try all 3 seat types in the showroom on a follow up visit. While I initially didn't pay much attention to 18-way seats, I realized that those are the most comfortable for me. It's a bit confusing the way these things are marketed. I thought the 18-way is only more sporty (and hence less comfortable). I have a back problem so I need to adjust change my seat position frequently. The 18-way give me the most room to do that. I should change the name of the thread and 18-way seats to it.
