991 recall

Talked to the dealer who told me that this was a problem with some of the early production cars and mine wasn't involved. He said the problem was limited to cars produced prior to March. I'm assuming if your car is involved they will notify you, but you can do what I did and call a dealer and give them your vin to confirm it.

I just got a letter in the mail from Porsche (dated Sept 14th) advising me to return my Carrera S for service and replacement of a possible defective air conditioning line that 'may result in a gradual loss of refrigerant oil.' They advise service 'at your earliest convenience' to avoid damage to the AC compressor.
I'm also going to ask about all the other recalls that are mentioned in this post...

Just sent my car to the dealer this morning, and they concluded that they need to complete FIVE "open" campaign on my car. My car is built in 02/12.
1. WC28, A/C pipe. The service advisor said this is a time consuming job.
2. WC34, front control unit. No further details.
3. WC40, Wind deflector. Rework the wind deflector using super fin long-life spray-on grease
4. WC41, Tension Ropes. Replace both convertible top tension ropes.
5. WC38, Seat belt opening.
It might take 2-3 days to complete.

This is consistent (one or two items may be different) with what my dealer has told me; however, none of it seems to have to be done immediately. The service manager suggested I have it done when I am ready to put the car away for the winter - something most of have to do in Connecticut.
On a related note, my 2012 Cayenne just had 5 or 6 recalls items addresses - front & rear computers (?), a headlight latching problem, etc. Fortunately, my car was not one of those with bad turbo wheels (casting defect).

Had asked the dealer whether my car was subject to the A/C recall. Nope you're not on the list. Yesterday the letter from P shows up saying I should take my car to the dealer for the A/C campaign. Guess I'll do it when I get my voice module in as that, the recall, and a PCM s/w upgrade should all take a bit of time.

Should recall's be contractually discussed Prior to signing?
DrK, I do feel for you and it has to be disconcerting to see your baby being torn apart only to have What sounds like Glue being applied to her.
It would be nice if Instead of Us, (you) paying for Porsche mistakes, that it was understood in the contract that if there were Recall's that weren't made known to Us, (you) as the purchaser would have the option to trade in your 911 on another that has had these recall's fixed prior to leaving the Porsche factory. Of course, they can limit this to the first few months or to a specific mileage.
I'm sure someone knew that these recall's were open prior to you taking delivery?
That to me would be, 100K customer service...

I'd throw this back at the dealer's face. You must be _ this stupid to work at a dealership.
It's like they couldn't qualify to be a sanitary engineer or flip burgers at McD's, so, what's a step down...???
Sorry for the rant. ... pisses me off...

there are dealers and there are dealers. i'm in my sixth decade and have purchased many cars for my family and for me. This is my first Porsche and I have been extremely pleased - surprised - at the level of service, concern and help I have received from my Porsche Dealer. For example, received a 20% off coupon for dealer installed accessories. While the offer is not generally extended for tires the dealer allowed its use for a winter and tire package and was even willing to waive the second required accessory (I purchased colored wheel caps so that's not a problem)
My view of customer service is that many organizations - and usually large ones - put their least experienced employees at the most important intersection - where their business intersects with the customer. You see that often in those stinking banks, insurance companies and credit card companies.
My dealer is a small dealer in a small state. It seems that every transaction is treated like a big deal- frankly, the attention i get is embarrassing.

It's just that the stories of ignorance, incompetence, and overall dissatisfaction are a lot more prevalent than the good stories that we don't hear/read about.

On a side note, the dealer uses Pennzoil Ultra 5W-40 European Fully Synthetic oil for my oil change. I always thought Mobil 1 0W-40 is the recommended oil. Anyway, the 991 took 7.5 liters, or about 8 quarts, and the dealer charges $94.50 for them, about $11.8/quart! Wow, more expensive than the Mobil 1 0W-40. Anyone has experience with these?
Two bottles of ATE Blue comes to $90 too. Next time I am getting my own.
