Fault of the Engine Control System and Another Recall

Fault of the Engine Control System and Another Recall
I purchased my 991C2S on March 31 and had to take it in for service last month after a check-engine light came on that read "Fault of the Engine Control System." The dealer said that the error was caused by the fuel-line recall not being performed prior to me taking delivery. Picked up the car the next day and everything appeared to be fine.
Now one month later, the same check engine light (fault of engine control system) came on and I brought it to the dealer again. After four days, the dealer is unable to provide me with any explanation. I am told they are consulting with engineers in Germany in order to diagnosis the problem.
In addition, the dealer has informed me there is another "campaign" (fancy word for recall) that I need to have done at a body shop involving foam that needs to be sprayed into certain areas of the car. There is another thread that discusses this latest recall.
I am wondering whether any other 991 owners are having a similar problem with the check engine light. I tried researching what this warning means but have not found anything. Does anyone know what a "fault of the engine control system" means? Is this a serious issue that I should contact PCNA if unable to resolve shortly. I hope that this does not become a recurring problem on a $120K automobile.
Thanks for any insight.

The control messages tend to be very generic and this one sounds like it can been many possible things, from minor to more significant. Only the dealer with all the diagnostic tools will be able to figure this out right. Let them do their job, and ask for some compensation if they take to long.

Same thing happened to me today. Called 1800PORSCHE and my dealer and was told that because the warning was in yellow it was safe to drive but to bring it in.
http://www.porscheownersmanuals.com/...7/Check-engine
the Online IManual says: Check Engine (Emission Control)
Warning light
The emission control system detects malfunctions early that could, for example, cause increased pollutant emissions or consequential damage.
Faults are indicated by a continuously lit or flashing instrument panel warning light.
The faults are recorded in the control unit's fault memory.
The warning light in the instrument panel lights up when the ignition is switched on as a bulb check and goes out after the engine starts. If the warning light does not light up, have the bulb replaced promptly.
The warning light in the instrument panel flashes to indicate operating states (e.g. engine misfiring) which might cause damage to certain parts of the emission control system.
In this case, immediately reduce the engine load by easing off the accelerator.
In order to avoid consequential damage to the engine or emission control system (e.g. catalytic converter), have the fault diagnosed and rectified immediately at the nearest authorized Porsche dealer.
If the warning light in the instrument panel lights up permanently without flashing before and remains on while driving, it suggests:
– a potential engine control problem and the need for system service or
– an improperly fastened tank cap or
– the vehicle was refueled while the engine was running.
Stop immediately at a suitable and secure place and check tank cap for proper fastening. If tank cap was fastened correctly, see your authorized Porsche dealer for service as soon as possible.
If the check engine warning light in the instrument panel is flashing, serious catalytic converter damage and power loss will soon occur.
Prolonged driving with the check engine warning light on could cause damage to the emission control system. It also could affect fuel economy and driveability.
Have the fault remedied at the nearest authorized Porsche dealer immediately.

Visited the dealer today. They hooked up the scanner. Ran a scan. Determined that the scan showed that the air mass sensor was detecting improbable increase and decrease readings. The tech looked up at me and asked a single question. I answered in the affirmative. He then determined that the problem was the connection between the steering wheel and the driver's seat.
It seems that I did not properly replace the oil cap when I added a small amount of oil There are two tangs and he told me that the seal was not complete when I replaced the cap as only one tang engaged.
Thoroughly embarrassed, I left.....
The question he asked was "did you recently add oil?"

While it's very embarrassing I am relieved that it was essentially nothing. The tech did comment that he was amazed by the average miles per gallon recorded...it showed just under 27 mpg (US).
