Yes I am aware of the pleas to shut up about mileage and just drive like I stole it, but today I had to drive to Philadelphia from the far western suburbs. Took the Pennsylvania Turnpike and the infamous Schuylkill Expressway (I 76) to the city. Speeds at fast as 85 on the Turnpike and just under 60 or so with a few bumper to bumper slow downs as I approached the city on the Schuylkill...averaged an amazing 34.1 mpg (us) on the trip. 911 base, PDK with sport off, no cruise control..
I am bringing this up as I am constantly amazed by the quality of the build of this car. We are talking 2008 Honda Civic type highway mileage at 65 mph (I know because that's the car I gave my daughter 4 years ago).

I love this thread. I am a big fan of fuel economy and was tired of hearing "if you can afford a car like this who cares about fuel economy". I care! One of many reasons I chose this car. Its a tribute to engineering to produce a car with this performance and fuel efficiency.

I did not buy this car because of the fuel economy but I am entertained by it. My last car (or should I say truck) an X5M with over 600hp got 12 mpg on the highway. How does a car that goes like this Carrera get 30 mpg on the highway. Just amazing.
I was coming back from Appleton yesterday. I was on the phone almost the entire time. So I was not speeding nor trying to get good mileage. I just happened to check and started laughing. 70 mph average and over 32 mpg.
Porsche direct injection is the wave of the future.

Your car must be really putting out hp.

Have you noticed a "bug" in the PCM I thought it was just my car....take a look at the beginning time..it's AM as opposed to PM.......I am sure that your journey started just before 4PM and the photo was taken just after 5PM

I'm not a physicist, but I think when you get to the extremes of the available output of system, the little amount of power gained comes at a great cost.

ah, diminishing returns...perhaps it the weight of the car that may contribute to the loss of mileage? the 991 is lighter..perhaps more areodynamic?
Tires? under inflated or real "sticky" for handling?
...maybe it's time for you to trade that beast for a 991s?

I really like it and don't consier myself in the market yet. If I were going to make a change at this point it would have to be for a turbo.

Agreed...I put the stage 2 dinan performance chip in my 335is took my hp/torque from 330/320 to 385/415. Mileage went from 18 to 13mpg. I'm getting 29 hwy in my 991S, and it's faster and a whole lot more fun!

Wow, great catch. I had not seen that glitch. Yes, my trip started at 4pm not 4am.

I mentioned it to the service department of my Dealer and he said to wait until the next software update..I suspect that this among other glitches will be resolved.
