Pics of moon roof and misc observations...

My dealer recently got in a 991 with a moon roof, so I stopped by to take a look since I am still finalizing my order (yes I know you can't actually order a moon roof now anyway). Unfortunately it was on a black car, i was hoping to see it on a lighter color, but I took a few pictures anyway from outside and inside that are available here.

I was originally a bit concerned about not having a solid shade, but even though it is partially transparent it does block out a significant amount of light. Actually when I first glanced up I thought it was solid. The weave in the fabric is fairly tight, so it blocks out much more light than the shade on the 997 targa. A few of the pics show the shade partially opened, so you can get an idea of what it is like. The pics were taken in direct sun, so this is pretty much a worst case scenario. In reality the pics actually make it look a bit lighter then it was in person.

While I was there I finally got a chance to try out a car with a manual transmission. The car was deep in the show room, so I didn't ask to drive it, but still got to feel the clutch and the throws of the shifter. It was everything I hoped it would be. The clutch pedal feels nice and firm (actually felt closer to a 997 GT3 than a standard 997 Carrera to me). The shifter is just perfect. Fairly short throws with a precise, mechanical feel. Lateral spacing between gears was relatively close compared to most manual trans cars I've driven (I assume partly because of the extra gate for the 7th speed), but did not feel awkward at all.

I also spent some time listening to the standard stereo and was surprised at how good it was and agree with the reviews from most others. I typically buy "premium" sound options on the various cars I have had in the past, but will skip it this time. The real sound system is the motor with PSE anyway.

Just about the only thing left I am undecided on is whether or not to get the 18-way sport seats vs the 14-way standard seats. I had thought all along I'd get the 18-way seats, but after sitting in them some I'm afraid they push forward on my shoulders a bit much, which could get uncomfortable on longer trips. The standard seat feels much better on my shoulders, but are lacking any kind of lateral leg support, which the sport seats do have.

The 991 is just such an amazing all-around sports car. Can't wait to finally put in my order and start waiting some more...

Great observations and thanks for pointing out glass sunroof shade not being solid...I think it'll be a deal breaker for me!

Are you with normal build or bigger/taller/broader than average? I consider myself average and really like the way 18way seats look...also there're a lot of raves/praises of those being very comfortable...haven't tried out yet....but need to before ordering...

I am 6' and 175lbs, so fairly thin I'd say, but have relatively broad shoulders. Overall the seat fits me very well. It is just at the shoulders that I noticed it a bit awkward, so I tried the regular seat and it felt better. It isn't so bad that I'd for sure rule out the sport seat. It was just enough to make me think about it some more.

I'm 195 pounds and the base seats fit perfectly. They are head and shoulders better than my 944 I had in '82 when I was young and foolish and drove from Leavenworth KS to Enterprise AL (900 miles) without stopping for anything but food and gas.

193 pounds, 5' 11" with long legs and wide shoulders My 991 has 14 way seats I have found them firm and comfortable.

As far as the standard radio, I mostly listen to NPR. Whether its through a luxman tuner, adcom amp amd high end ribbon speakers at home (not to forget those insanely expensive wires to the speakers), my iPhone ear buds or the standard Porsche radio, the news still sounds depressing and about the same.

I elected not to spend over 2k for the Bose and would have had never considered the high end option. That said, there are a lot of audiophiles on this bbs who can appreciate a really good sound system and for them the option is a necessity. I am not in that listening league.

You should consider the PDK. As an MGB owner i am most probably in the million shift club. There is something almost magical about the quality and almost thoughtful shift selection of the porsche PDK.

Attilas totally concur with your findings of the car. Tested a 991 base MT last week and just preparing to put up videos and pictures - very impressive in its base form. In summary the new MT is incredible - like a short shifter and the clutch feel is phenomenal. Being 6'4 and broad shouldered I would go with the 14way. I also like the fact that the backs are leather - more durable and less marking for the golf bag that will go in the back.

And yes to the glass roof, I think it fills the cabin with great light when you want it.
