I have a tent and a sleeping bag I can loan you so you can camp out by the dealership! Don't worry, the wait will be worth it. Having just been through that, I totally feel your excitement!

In terms of driving, the car has been just superb in its handling. Having just come from a nicely modified 993, I can say that the 991 has not lost any of the quintessential 911 feel. Sure, it has lost a certain degree of its rawness but that I see as evolution, rather than selling out. Instead of climbing into what can only be described as an oversized go kart in the older 911s, one now drops into a very modern, cocooned sports car ****pit.

It is a lot more evolved and refined from the older 911 and now would appeal to a far wider driver demographic than before but the car should also appeal to an old school 911 porschephile. I have yet to get it past 4k rpm but can already feel that this 991 is going to be a beast of a car when unleashed.

My neighbors are already sick of hearing me roar up, blipping the throttle while I downshift and turn into our driveway. With PSE on (the default position should be ON), the car just makes such a glorious noise. It took a bit of work to get my 993 exhaust sounding this good and this car came like this from the factory!!!!

With PDCC, the cornering has been composed and "rail" like.

In terms of pet peeves, the Hold function is taking a bit of getting used to. I have stalled it a number of times now, which is annoying given that I never stalled a normal manual on a hill before.

While the Bose system is ok, it does need a bunch of fiddling around to get the sound much improved. The bass setting I find a little too much and only after going into each menu and setting it a few notches lower that I find it acceptable. If i could have a do over, I would definitely have gone for the Burmester.

The amount of electronic gadgetry in the car is mind boggling. I think I am going to need to order the factory charger just to keep the battery from draining just sitting in the garage.

The navi system is very good. XM radio...jury still out. Bluetooth connectivity for iPhone is great.

Other than the above bits, I am still getting to know the car and its capabilities.
Darren, thanks for the update. It's so nice getting feedback based on "live" experience vs expectations. I am glad that you're a happy camper.

I'd agree with you about the issues you mentioned. Yes the pdcc... rail like and IMO a star option especially with spasm. Happy I went with it. I entirely agree with you about Burmester being the audio option to go with. I went with Bose and wish I had gone with Bur. Next time around it'll be very strongly considered.

Keep enjoying the car, we are all so lucky to experience these wonders of engineering.

Btw, thanks for your posts and pics.... very informative.

Haku,
Thanks for the kind words. Yes, the PDCC together with the SPASM is great. I am still getting used to how much bigger the 991 is compared to my 993...a bit like going from a Caymen to a Panamera.

dr bit is infamous around these parts
You are right, the stitching looks pretty subtle, have you considered changing the the sport chrono or instruments to red guard to accentuate the red of the the stitching? I might do that.
Btw I love the CF in the seats, I asked ma carbon but seems to be more than 5grand just for it. Pretty cool solution and well executed quality wise.

Thanks. The cf wrap worked out really well. I looked at red faces for the chrono etc but they were not as easy to read as the black face for me so I went all black.

DBYT- Congratulations...it's a beauty. I think you are actually ahead of the game by being away when all the scut work has to be done. It's very frustrating when you get a new car but don't feel like it's really done until all the optional things are completed. You will be spared all that and when you see it for the first time, it will be exactly as you envisioned it in your mind's eye.

Thanks Lonnie but I actually took delivery in November last year. It was worth the wait. This thread resurfaced because Dr Bit was trying to see pictures of beige leather with red stitching.
