I would've expected that PDK protected against over-revving on downshifts by refusing to shift into the lower gear until the car's speed had come down low enough that there would be no over-revving. It seems that everybody else's dual clutch or other auto-manual transmission does.

That blows! At least you have a good sense of humor while recapping the day's event!

Sorry to hear of this, but nonetheless your story started off with a frown and has ended with a simle.... well at least on my face ; )

Best of luck with your next outing. Look on the brightside, they gave you a nice loader vehicle!

I was driving a PDK 991S Coupe in September in Germany. I made the mistake of trying to downshift rather than upshift at a rather high speed. Transmission ignored the request and stayed in the gear I was already in. Wouldn't let me downshift at too high a speed. My TT Cab with Tiptronic has the same feature.

PDK does protect from a so-called 'money shift'. At least it's supposed to. Unless there is some programming fault in the new software. I hope they get it sorted soon!

In my 997 tip (manual mode), I more than once downshifted into 2nd at WOT and found that the ECU couldn't keep up with the revs, leading to a bad shudder for a couple seconds when it hit the limiter.
In my PDK 991S, I've been a lot more careful and only had that happen once, and it wasnt as dramatic.
Point is, the overrev protection isn't perfect during very aggressive driving.

Sorry to hear it, I understand the loss of good track time is a bummer.

I've tracked 11 days on my 991 S cab and have no issues. I always used PDK+ and just let the computer figured out when to shift.

I would wait until I've got at least 2000 miles on the car before tracking it. That is dangerous business going out there with only 1000 miles on it.

is anyone concerned that the use of the car at a track even may void warranty?

I think it's not out of the question but IMO highly unlikely given the Porsche.com tagline on the 991S: "Track ready performance taken to a new level..."

What ever works for you. I put 40 miles on my 991S and have done 5 track days so far. My Caymen R went directly from the dealer to the track. Both run/ran great. I do take it easy in the first session.
Ole, Have you found out what happened? Allan

I would be curious to see a DME scan of the over rev ranges. I've never heard of a money shift in a PDK and didn't think it could happen.

I'm driving the car as it is designed for, what is the concern?
