Porsche encourage you to track your car at HPDE events, the cars are build for this and that is also why the warranty is covering everything. I'm pretty sure that my downshift didn't cause the revs to go above 8000 rpm and therefore PDK allowed me to do the shift and overrev never kicked in.

I'll keep you all posted as soon as I receive news from the dealer.
it was my understanding that porsche can void warranty for track use! are times changing?

Porka, as lawdawg97 writes in an earlier post it all depends on the situation.

AWESOME, glad you've got your ride back and that it didn't need an engine replacement.
Enjoy!

If the track use caused the damage.

In this case, I don't think the track caused the failure, just that it caused an existing problem to be surfaced.

Like was stated - depends.

OP - awesome! Glad to hear things turned out okay (except for the lost track time).

Over-revving with a computer controlled gearbox. Must be a first

After looking at the data from the car it was clear that over revving never caused the problem.

Anyway car runs great again and since it's saturday and the no rain in the forecast it's time to a bath

Sorry if I missed this, but do we know why the car was allowed to overrev? If it's a PDK, I thought the PDK was capable of figuring out if a downshift demand would cause an over-speed and reject the demand. Is that not true?

Chuck as I wrote above the car didn't overrev and I was never in redline. PDK did it's job and allowed to downshift since I was not in redline.

Sorry, I thought you were saying that it did over-rev, but that didn't cause the problem. I thought I had read earlier that it went to >8000. My apologies. Thanks for the clarification.

No problem, I actually did write in my first post that thought I hit 8500 rpm by down shifting, but after the car was hooked up to the computer it was clear that I was never even close. Sorry for the confusion
