Unhappy Track day ended before it began

OK, so ever since I placed my order in August I have been looking forward to this thanksgiving weekend at Road Atlanta. As some of you know I took delivery of my 991 1 month ago, and since then I have been busy putting miles on the clock so that the car was at least at 1K before I took it to the track.

Finally the day I've been waiting on came and I of course jumped out of bed way too early this morning, to get to Road Atlanta for my 7th track event this year, and my first in the 991.

I get to the track with my buddies, it's feeeezing cold but hey who cares I'm here to have fun, let's get started! Program for the day is 30 min. warmup under yellow flag from 8:00AM-8:30AM, and then 4 sessions each 30 min. in designated run group, this is going to be AWESOME!!

So 8:00AM I'm in the car ready to GO, I get on the track with what seems to be the entire state of Georgia, lots of traffic and we are under yellow so no passing.
I start in D(PDK), SPORT+ , just to get the apex rhythm going, everything is great but slow, max speed 70 mph, finally the checked flag is out and we can go in pit and get ready for the real deal, so last warm up lap I move the shifter to manual, going into a slow turn, thinking I'm in 3rd shifting down to 2nd (it's a very slow turn)....
Well I wasn't in 3rd I was in 2nd so I ended up in 1st , which should be ok, I did hit the redline 8500 rpm but the limiter didn't kick in so everything should be ok , and it was ok going the last stretch down the back straight, but as soon as I pit in, the engine light came on and 3 info messages appeared in the display...

The sound of the engine was now rough, I could hear that it was not running on all cylinders, so I called up the dealership for advise and the verdict from them was: Call 1-800-PORSCHE!!!
Are you F****** kidding me!!! I have been waiting for this day for 3 month!!

Anyway tow truck came within 60 min. (great service from Porsche and Hennessy in Atlanta), and after an hour at the dealership it was clear that the misfire on cylinder 5 was not a quick fix So here I am, home with the wife and kids watching Disney Channel this weekend....

Below pics tells it all...

I don't know what's worse: something going wrong on track or having to drive a Cayenne

Good luck. I'm sure it will be ok and you'll be in your 991 ASAP.

Thank you guys I'll keep you posted, right now I'm drowning my sorrows with a bottle of silver oak.

Actually it's not so much the car that is hurting, it's more the loss of good track time, the car will be ok eventually, and knowing the service level at Hennessy Porsche I'm in good hands.

@Sid, I do remember a thread here on 6speed where a member had a misfire on a cylinder and got the engine replaced, just don't remember who it was?

Cheers!

That totally sucked. Well, I'd lie if I'd say that it was not a good day at the track... but we missed you
Here's a thread that started with ECM issues, but there was little follow up (maybe on Rennlist): https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...m-failure.html

I'll watch Disney Channel with the kids tonight to show some solidarity!

You know what this does remind me of a similar story I've heard... either here or on Rennlist.
Damn, I can't remember what exactly it was but I believe they took the engine out and shipped it to Germany for analysis.

It is probably something minor but never the less it sucks that it had to happen when it did... let us know how it turns out.

Good luck!
Is this the thread you were thinking of? This member had misfire on cylinder 1

Hmmm I lost 2 days at Road Atlanta.... so 2 days at Barber would be a nice compensation (read thread)

No no, I was not pissed at them asking me to call 800 Porsche, I was pissed because of this happened after waiting 3 month for this day. It could have happened any other day, but today!

Sorry it came out in the wrong way, I have nothing but good to say about Porsche and Hennessy Porsche, that's why I have sticked to the P brand the past 10 years

that's a huge shame!

I am so sorry to read about your ruined track day and car woe.
I'm sure Hennessy will fix the car pronto and Porsche will throw in something to make amends.
