Your oil temperatures

So, keep in mind my car only has 500 miles, but I've seen the oil temp get up to ~ 215-220 deg F...my 2009 DFI Carrera S usually only got up to 200. I've also noticed this thing holds temperature better after it sits for a small period of time.

Thoughts? Observations?

228F? Now I'm begining to wonder if my temp is too low.
I'm impressed, it is freaking hot here and yet the 991 temp stays pretty much the same as you guys running in much colder climate. Excellent temp control.

My car is seeing the same results (225) with 550 miles now on the clock.

The 991 tech manual mentioned that the coolant temp level of the 991 is 221 F while the 997 is 185 F. The 991 also has a much faster temp ramp up than the 997.

It also states that when sport or sport plus mode is activated, performance will be enhanced by reducing the coolant temp to 185 F through the MAP-controlled thermostat.

The increased coolant temp is meant to reduce emission, reduce fuel consumption at non-sport driving and reduce internal friction in engine & transmission.

The 991 has a very complex temperature management system compared to the 997. It is also designed to run hotter, but have enough cooling capacity to not overheat. And as with all cooling systems, you have to take the temperature seen with a grain of salt because of where the sensor is placed for that particular design. So comparing to a 997 will be misleading. You'll probably get more out of pulsing the folks on the sight or more importantly identifying and writing down the temperature under various ambient and performance conditions.

The engine coolant temperature has similar strategies, but one and then both fans come on as the demand rises.

Interesting...I haven't seen a difference in coolant temp between sport and non-sport so far. Both seem to hold steady at 200F.

I only read about this today, I've yet to observe if there's any difference between sports and non sports. Will keep an eye on it.

Title is Oil Temperature, but we are talking about coolant temp here. Perhaps the coolant temp is rock steady at 200, while the sports mode changes the oil temp regulation?

I'll have to pay attention as well.

You have a point here, the coolant and oil temp is likely to be different but could be related. Today I drove a segment of the road twice with sports and non-sports. Here's what I observed.
During Sports Mode, Oil temp range was around 198 - 205 F
During Normal Mode, Oil temp range was around 220-226 F

Driving speed - 65-70 mph ( sorry couldn't go faster cause traffic not that smooth )
Driving distance - 8 miles per segment
Ambient temp - 92 F
I drove the sports mode segment first
Note - Car only have about 400 miles on speedo
