Finally got to drive it in the snow

A VERY light right foot indeed! I think I will leave the 991 in the garage when it snows and just use the Range Rover...now, doing power slides around corners in that thing in the snow is fun!

Get the thing out and let her rip.... ermm.... I did with my GT3 a couple of years ago and almost came a cropper! No snow tires here!

My first P-car was an '01 C4 I drove through four Boston winters as a daily driver. It's still the best handling snow car I've ever driven. I use Dunlop Winter Sport tires on all of my high performance winter drivers.
A lot of people talk about ground clearance issues, but the reality is today the vast majority of roads anywhere people drive a 911 in the winter are going to be regularly plowed and it's highly unlikely you'll ever see 6" or more snow on the roads more than a handful of times. I never had any issues driving through that much snow other than breaking and/or losing a few plastic aero pieces under the front of the car. Amazingly enough (for Porsche parts) there were actually very cheap to replace at usually $25-35 each.
I've had many favorite winter driving experiences, but the one that always comes to mind first was when we got about 3 feet of snow in Boston in one storm. My 911 was parked in a covered garage in the basement of my condo building with a steep ramp about 50 feet long leading up from basement onto the street. I went out with a snow shovel and cleared the packed snow from the edge of the road just wide enough to fit the car through. Due to the building sheltering the drive, there was only about 12-18" of snow on the ramp. A guy was shoveling his driveway across the road and I could see him laughing at me since he could see the car parked at the bottom of the ramp as I shoveled. I'm sure he was thinking "Look at this idiot in his fancy car. I can't wait to see him get stuck!" I literally had only an inch or two of clearance on each side and left a foot of the packed stuff at the end of the drive since I was too tired and lazy to shovel it. My C4 went through the loose snow up the ramp and right through the packed stuff at the end without slipping to either side or having a single issue. The guy across the road just stood there with his mouth open catching flies!

I was driving my 997 from Colorado Springs up to my house in Divide CO one February and the roads were clear as I started at the bottom of the hill. My house was right behind Pikes Peak. Half way up it started to snow, I mean really snow. I was in my C2 with summer performance tires, so needless to say I was a bit nervous. If you know the area you know there are some pretty steep sections escecially between Woodland Park and Divide. As the snow was getting worse I was passed by several 4x4's and I caught more than a few laughs in my direction. However 2/3s of the way home i started passing some of those same 4x4's who were in ditches with their mouths open as I went by. I truly believed I would not make it home a couple times but that 997 never stopped once. I just maintained a steady speed and plowed right thru all that snow.
I kept saying how amazing it would have been if actually had snow tires on the car! While I wouldn't want to have to do that every day it was a great experience and really proved to me how capable these cars are.

I've got to say that the most fun I had was in my 997 C4S... memorable good times!

Drove my car to the country club this morning to meet some friends...came back a few hours later and there was 6 inches of snow on the car and on the roads. Cleared snow off the car and drove it home through unploughed roads. The Michelin Alpins performed well and the looks I got from people walking their dogs were priceless! About 6 different people did double takes and could not believe they were seeing a sports car trundling along whilst other cars seemed to be struggling in the conditions.

So thats where the snow went. We had flakes n rain here near DC.
The other day we had some sticking and I was on the edge (in my other car with all season tires)- got passed going up a hill by a guy in an A8 convertible with a huge grin on his face, clearly thinking the same thoughts.

rockin DBYT! i noticed the same rims on yours with the alpins on. did you have the dealer switch out your tires or did you get 2 sets of the same rims? curious if you or anyone else has suggestions on winter tire storage by retailers or dealers? would like to avoid storing them at home if possible.
