Best Paint Protection Film for Basalt Black Metallic Exterior
Hoping to receive my 991 Cab tomorrow
I am thinking to get the whole car wrapped instead of just the front end to protect from stone chips, dings, etc
The 2 choices are Llumar and Clear Shield and maybe 3M
I am wondering about:
1. Any damaging effect on paint as I live in a hot climate where it could be very hot 110F - 115F plus dusty winds and humid
2. Any damage that could occur to the paint during removal process after 3 years. I have been told that it's not advisable to leave it on more than 3 years even if it comes with a longer warranty due to the extreme hot climate.
3. Newer products which apply ceramic coating - would be a substitute to the film?
4. Yellowing and how it could look on black paint
5. Should it be applied such that it is tucked in or simply cut off at the edges (could peel off later?)
6. During the application if they cut the film on the edges with a blade could they scratch the paint inadvertently?
Any feedback welcome

I cannot answer all of your question but I got the Prestige ClearGuard X film installed and am very happy with it.
The one thing that prompted me to reply to your post regards your point #6.
NEVER, NEVER, NEVER use an installer who cuts the film on the car! They may, and very rarely snip an edge or something but never cut. Most installers have template based precut sheets.
I would also only go to a recommended installer and preferably be present during the installation.
I'm sure others will reply and shed more light on your questions.

I've got a basalt black C2Scab and used the Xpel ultimate. It looks awesome, I did not do the whole car but did a full wrap of the front hood, quarters, bumper, mirrors, headlights. I don't know about the time element under extreme heat. I agree with Haku, my installer used all precuts. You cannot tell its on there.

You should take into consideration our XPEL Ultimate as well. We feel that our film is best made to hold up to the elements over time. To answer a few of your questions:
1) We sell heavily to some of the worst environments on earth for automotive paint like Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar etc. Our film can handle the temps. We have also been road tested at the Dakar Rally as well.

2) You can leacve the film on longer than 3 years. Our film comes with a 10 year warranty. Ususally the only damage to the paint occurs when the paint has been poorly baked on after a re-spray. In those instances, clear can be pulled or paint as well.
3) Ceramics work well but they do not compare to paint protection film and how it prevents rock chips.
4) How does our film look on black? Take a look at this Ferrari 458

5) Have the installer wrap the edges for the cleanest look possible.
6) Kits are the best way to go. You want to minimize the times an installer might have to take a blade to the car because there is always a chance that they could cut right into your paint. The installation quality of the installer is key.
I have also copied a few links for you to view regarding XPEL Ultimate's capabilities:

I ordered the red 911 4S. Swirls on red non metallic appear very much. Would it be better to wrap the entire car?

Additionally, the clear coat used on the Ultimate film essentially seals the urethane in a way that protects in from car wash chemicals that would be very harful to most other urethane films. You can even use lacquer thinner on XPEL Ultimate!
