Plycar Transportation delived a car to me on the West Coast from Ill and did a fine job. Very nice rig, the driver was cool and called me with updates on his ETA.

Talking about being worried about long range truck transport. My new car (991S X51 Cab) arrives in Halifax next Saturday morning. I've actually seen new Porsches arrive at the Vancouver dealership on an open flat deck truck! Usually they use enclsoed which hopefully would be cleaner/safer. I'll be awake nights while the car is coming across Canada.

Finally, after 1.5 months, I got somewhere only after getting PCNA involved.
The dealer was "discussing" the matter with the transport carrier, they said the carrier would compensate but it never eventuated (no call, didn't pick up my calls, etc). Finally a month later dealer said, nope nothing anyone can do. Dealership will not pick up the tab to do the swirl removal, etc.
Was going to give them a negative on the Porsche survey, but it expired so called PCNA and they followed up with the manager and regional manager. Finally a week later, I called the dealership manager and see whats going on. Had a bit of back and forth, and to finally to put it to rest, they offered $300. I'm tired of chasing this down, so going to move on and pay the difference for swirl removal out of my own pocket. Estimate is $75/hour from a reputable and highly recommend detail shop which specialized in swirl removal, paint repair.
Overall pretty dissatisfied with dealership experience. Even more dissatisfied with the carrier, hopefully nobody ever needs to deal with these guys:

BTW: This will probably be the last time I buy a car out of state unless I can fly there and drive it back myself after inspecting the car as others have suggested.

Sorry again to hear about your ordeal, but happy to hear that you are getting it fixed. It stinks that no one was willing to take responsibility, and hopefully the $300 will pay for most of the detailing. You go through the expense of buying a Porsche, you expect a great experience - it is a shame this did not happen for you. But once you get it buffed out, guaranteed you will be one happy - and fast - dude!

Sadly the dealer usually doesn't give a flying fig once the sale is done and will pawn you off to PCNA to mop up any mess.
For their generous offer of $300, I would have told them to stick it. I'm sure you could have afforded the $300 yourself, but clearly the concept of basing a case on principal and customer service never entered their noggin.
Had a similar out of state experience and it would be very interesting if it was the same dealership..

Who arranged for shipping you or the dealer? If a car gets damaged during shipping the transporter is responsible simple as that. Everytime I put a car on a truck it is inspected by myself and the driver any issues are noted. Plus I take pix for precaution. It does suck that it took the fun out of getting your Porsche but in the grand scheme of things its minor.

Mine was in Ohio, so no chance of driving it in winter. Where was your dealership at?

The dealer arranged for shipping. Transporter marked no damages on the originating form, but I guess it depends if they consider swirl marks damage or not. The swirl marks could go either way, dealer having bad PDI or carrier as others have pointed out, but in the end, getting anyone to take care of it is near impossible.
Thanks 1Blink, thats the same feeling I had, next time local enough where I pickup in person is the way to go.

i had this happen once with a black car.. the drive put a muddy four-wheel drive on top.. i was freaking out.. the dealer paid the local porsche body shop to detail the car and it was fine.. i feel the frustration (((

Originally, I had suggested that option with the dealer before getting PCNA involved, but they weren't interested
Glad your dealer made it right without much hassle.

Oddly enough the $300 offered may be high. By way of explanation, the car was in interstate commerce as it was transported across state lines and subject to ICC regulations. Unless special insurance coverage was purchased the liability is - as I recall from 33 years ago- limited to something like $0.60 a pound.
Here's the tip: when you ship a car heavily insure it and ship it "FOB Delivery". The FOB shifts the risk of loss to the shipper
