coolant top-up ?

How often do you top-up the coolant level and how much have you used ?

I have now used 1 liter over 4500Km in two months. This is much more than with any car I have so far owned - just wondering if this is normal.
Car not tracked but it has to "perform to specifications" on occasion.

No , it is not normal , My car is about 11500 km and the coolant level is the same - i do races and the level did not change , take it to the porsche agency because i had same of this issue on my new cayenne s , with also tik tik tik sound , and it was engine problem at the end they changed it.

It does evaporate over time a bit, but a liter in 4,500 KM seems more than usual. A pressure test at the dealer should be able to determine if there is a leak somewhere.

That doesn't sound normal. Some 997's had issues with leaks around the coolant reservoir cap. Not sure how that is set-up on the 991 with the "invisible" engine, but you might want to take a look at the cap if you can see it to make sure it is on tight and not leaking. Of course I guess if you have been adding the coolant yourself, you would have noticed any signs of leakage around the cap.

that sounds bad....have you consumed any oil? is the oil milky or light brown?

could be a minor as a loose hose or significant as a cracked head...take it to the dealer.

Checked mine, it was at MIN. No warning lights though. What type of coolant is used for this engine? Looked in book but it has no spec. Anybody know?

Yes, coolant.
I have so far used 1/2 liter of oil, that seems pretty normal.

No noticable change of color of the oil when sampled but the "leak" if it is one is relatively small so any small amount of water in the oil should boil off and should be expelled via the breather.

I have so far topped up the coolant with destilled water as there does not seem to be a visible leak (so I am assuming evaporative loss).

Think I'll take it to P for a checkout, just in case.

Interesting, noticed my service reminder is set at 53000 Km and year 2016 ! I wonder if this car was ever properly setup at the dealer.

I don't usualy rant about things I can't do anything about - but I have to say this.
I really, really do not like the fact that the engine is not easily accessible for an inspection.
Here I am fiddling with a boroscope to inspect the outside of the engine for coolant leaks. That's just wrong.

Agree, but you can get to about the same amount of access in about 5-10 seconds by taking the fans out. There aren't even any screws. I watched the tech do that when I had my bypass valve issue.

Done that - but you still don't get to see much at all. That is why I used the boroscope. Luckily I have one since I use this for inspections on aircraft engines (and other inaccessible places, even used it to locate bats nesting in our ceiling).
To get a good look at the engine the fans come out - that gives you access from the top and with that (and the boroscope) you can look at most of the engine from the top - the parts you can't get to are then accessible from the bottom (again using the boroscope).
Anything more and the bumper needs to come off.

Just for sh*ts and giggles I checked the coolant level and presto the reserve was at minimum. I purchased coolant and mixed 50/50 with distilled water. Put 24 oz of the mixture and the red bulb indicator showed midpoint between min and max

My reminder matches yours, wondering if the pre delivery inspection was ever done. Can this be reset without visiting the dealer?
