I use sport quite often, but like others, I try to keep it below 4200. Occasionally I'll flip into Sport+, but it's a lot harder for me to tame it back to 4200.... it just feels and sounds so happy at the high revs. I'm still not even sure if the break-in is necessary, I've seen lots of conflicting opinions on the boards... but better safe than sorry for me.

Thanks to all of you for the input!

I have contemplating this for quite a while as the manual states to stay under 4k RPM until 2000 miles but want to really immerse myself into the machine. I've read this topic of break-in endlessly and have come to the conclusion to follow the rules

However from the cautious few, gain an understanding of baseline driving to practice SOME control from clicking ALL the buttons

Good to know I'm safe at clicking at least 1

Have any of you that picked up the car a great distance from home, or chose to go on a long trip (100 miles +) experienced difficulty getting that "variance" on the RPM guage? Does this even matter? I will be picking my car up 350 miles+ from home...ouch..or is it OoOo?

The service mgr is well reputed...he told me below, which I've been following:

1- long drives, make sure it's not stuck below around 2K rpm for long time. Vary the engine speeds.

2- It's ok to do occasional over 4K rpm before 1K miles and absolutely ok to even do occasional red line after 1K miles-after 2K, no limit.

It's a pleasure owning one!

I to am struggling with the breakin period\rules. When she hits 4k revs she really wants to go so it's hard to maintain control I have read a lot of articles saying it's not necessary to take it easy on the engine, that it's 'ready for the track' immediately. While I am not intending to run straight to the track it sure would be nice to open her up every now and then! For now I'm doing my best to stay within the rules...
I like Fester's rule of the occasional over 4k before 1k miles option. At least that gives you a little chance to play. I am going to try hard to take a long drive next week that should help a bit with the miles and give me a chance to vary the RPM's as well.

You should be fine. No better way to break in a car than long drives. While on the highway, just shift between 4th and 7th every so often to change the RPM's (I'd do it every 5-10 minutes). Enjoy the drive!

I continue to be a fan of putting new engines through multiple heat cycles and plan on doing so during the first couple of days. Instead of longer duration drives, I think a series of 20-30 min spirited runs (observing the RPM limits) followed by 10-15 min cooling periods will aid in breaking in the engine properly. The cool down periods will allow some time to browse the owners manual.
