OptiCoat 2.0 Nanotechnology - I'm Very Impressed
#16
On a slightly related note, I saw this video a little while back and have been contemplating the future uses and possible automotive applications. Actually looked up prices today, and I'm thinking about buying two quarts to play around with. Obviously can't be used currently for paint protection, but the talk of advancements in nano coatings made me think of this immediately. Car looks great by the way. I'm definitely gonna give OptiCoat a try. I'm curious what the effects of overspray on glass, trim, etc. would be. Did you spray or wipe it on?

The instructions (and email correspondence) says not to use it on glass. So I was very careful to avoid any overlapping.
I don't know if it's harmful or if their product liability lawyers don't want to mess with the US DOT requirements on automotive glass.

Definitely use the wipe on method. There's a lot of product waste when spraying.
I tested it on windshields in the past and the wiper friction removes it eventually. Why waste the product? But, paint, wheels, calipers are all fair game. I even applied it to the painted console of my 996.
One trick I have honed over the years is to transfer it from the syringe into a small spray bottle. Spray directly onto your applicator and have it. Put the unused back into the airtight syringe.

I put it on the windshield of my M3, it beads the water up nicely. But it will wear away much quicker. I also used it on my headlamps and tailights.
