I think was in Daytona. Tire blew just before coming into the straight. Happened about a year ago.

And while I don't want to sound like a heartless jerk, I'm glad this driver is being charged if he/she was, in fact, impaired. Drinkiing and/or drugs and driving have no place together. Ever.

A few of my DUI clients have lost their licenses and the karma effect sort of kicked in. As I recall ( from about 25 years ago) one lost his leg in an accident DUI related where a young girl was injured. He lost the license and was hobbling home drunk on crutches on a dark and stormy night, yup...he was struck and killed by a DUI.
Recently, another client who has what is an essentially lifetime license suspension after a particularly gruesome incident, was hit by a car that left the scene - he had to have a hip replaced.
Most were not first time offenders and had driven under the influence tens if not hundreds of times before having an accident or being stopped.
I absolutely never have anything to drink if I am going to be driving within 4 hours - essentially, this means that I never have alcohol - not even a beer - unless I am staying home or on vacation. There is too much at stake. It's not if but when you are going to kill or injure someone and even if alcohol is not a factor, if it's in your blood, you're screwed.
Driving a Porsche is fun and it's best to have all your wits about you to enjoy ever second.
