About to pull the trigger. Which one would you choose?!
So I've located 2 decent deals on 2012 991's, both at 2 different stealerships. But, i think the pricing is fair. My issue is that they are 2 completely different cars, and I like them both, can't decide which one! PLEASE HELP!! I will likely pull the trigger on one of them in the next day or two.
My last P-car was a 2009 C4S coupe, leased (brand new). I took it where the sun don't shine on that one, paid $118k (sticker 128k) and high money factor to PFS. Based on that experience, will never lease a P-car again (the residual is higher than what PFS quotes, so you could sell for more after the first year or two than the lease) and promised to never overpay (for me, personally) for the "S" or 4 versions - base is all I need.
Don't remember what I've been driving for the past 2 years
but here I go embarking on a new 911 -
NOTE - Both have in-service date around Dec 2012

Hmm. You're right, 2 completely different cars. Its' quite easy. If you really want a 911 Cab, then you're choice is obvious. I think you're either a cabriolet guy or not. For me, I'm definitely a coupe guy when it comes to 911s so the answer would be easy for me.
The Cab does seem like a slightly better deal strictly price wise. Also, if this is from a Porsche dealership they should be able to CPO it for you. I know it costs around $3600 in Canada to CPO a car. The dealership probably pays less than that as there is probably some commission built in that price.
If you like the cab, go for it. These cars are reliable and you still have the remainder of the original factory warranty on the cab. Ask them if they can CPO it for you and see what that would cost. I would think CPO is more crucial for a 911 already out of warranty. You still have lots of original warranty left.
Good luck and let us know what you decide!

Agree with LPB987S =very different cars .
Personally I like car number 1 . I feel that a 911 ought to be a coupe and if opting for a convertible I'd choose a new Boxster S in the same price range and call it a day.

Agree! If you don't need the backseats and want a convertible, the new Boxster S is a great choice unless you are convinced you need a 911.

Car #1 sounds like my car. I hope they are not still advertising it. I got it at Fletcher Jones on June 10th.

Agree with you guys in general that it comes down to personal preference. But, I am not one with particularly strong convictions in either case. I have a convertible right now, and I love driving around with the top open, so I do enjoy it. I did own the 997.2 C4S in coupe form, and enjoyed the rigid chasis and raw performance feel. Yes, feel. The coupe feels more rigid, and if you really want to dig into the sexy side of the 911 (performance), I think coupe definitely has an edge. Regardless of what C&D or Motortrend say, the Cab can't be tossed around as well as a coupe from my personal experience. That's not to say the 911 Cab is any less of a beast, it's just inherent to the architecture that it will be slightly less tossable than a Coupe. However, I don't think I'll ever drive to the point where I will be aware of the difference - it'll just be this little thing in the back of my mind.
That being said, if 1 of the cars were to have PASM, it should be the Cab to make up for the lesser throwability. Unfortunately, it's the coupe that has PASM.
For lifestyle reasons, I am 80% for the Cab - as I imagine me and my wife driving up Hwy 1 with the top down plus the overall inherent 911 performance.
For my fetish side, those times when I just don't give a F* and want to rip around a tight turn at 80MPH, I am 60% Coupe... As it's more of a mental thing for me with the Cab since I would never drive it hard enough to feel any lacking in the Cab.
So, if my math is still good, I am 60/40 in favor of the Cab.
Also, I do have strong convictions about a 911, so it won't be a Boxster for me. I know they supposedly match up in performance etc. but there's more to it for me
I guess I'll sleep on it and see where my head's at tomorrow morning.

I'm starting to wonder if I should hold out for a better deal now.... Your $76k + the $3500 CPO value = roughly $80k, and yet I'm stuck at $84k with these guys for what sounds like the same build. And yes, the MSRP is $105,890.

LOL car #1 looks like exactly the same car as the one in your profile pic. Fletcher Jones MB in Newport? Man, that would be a deal if I could find that. However this one was never registered, so it's not the same exact vehicle, and plus it's at Rusnak Porsche.

If you're a cab guy (and of course in So. California you would be), I would definitely go with the Cab. Personally, I like hardtop Porsches, but that's me, not you. The CPO thing in a Porsche with low mileage is really not that big an issue. Of course the car could turn out to be a lemon and then you would be f---- but honestly what are the percentage of 991's are lemons?
So, in conclusion, I'd go with the Cab.

The cab definitely looks like the better deal. It also looks like the one you would be happiest with.
I am a coupe kind of guy. The car is for you. Buy the one that gives you the biggest smile.

If the Carfax on the Cabrio is clean, then get the VIN and ask a Porsche dealer look it up for you to get its service history. If that's also unremarkable, then get the Cab. You'll do more top down driving than anything else in California's near perfect weather. Still try to negotiate a better price. It costs nothing to ask.

Cab, I'm 2 months into my first Porsche and Cab and can't believe how much I love dropping the top.
PS: don't no if I'll ever push the car far enough to regret not having extra rigidity of a coupe. But I'm sure going to try.
