From GTR to 991 S

Replacing the orange sidemarkers will do more than expected to pull the front end together with the brightwork on the headlights and turn signals. I resisted for a long time but it really just looks like it was designed that way.

I found this post to be pretty much spot on! The 991 gets more looks than my GT silver 997 did, for whatever reason. I think it's the stance of the car. And it's a beauty.
Now for the racing: you are right. I have people get aggressive around me every day. Audi A4 2.0 yesterday, JUST HAD TO BE AHEAD, Hyundai Genesis another day, the list goes on and on. I just kinda laugh. I don't get their attitudes.
I'm sure you know that if you were to give the car the full beans you would absolutely annihilate them!

You know to be honest I didn't hold the Porsche brand in much high esteem as recently as June 2013. I associated it mostly as a girly car purchased by the idle rich.
I had a pretty modded up 335i. Aside from the occasional teen, didn't get many stares. With the high low-end instant torque, it was fairly easy to drive on the freeway. Still no one really tried to race me.
Now that I got my 991, I get a lot of looks. I get a lot of looks from girls especially. I get so many looks now, my GF gets jealous. I'm not particularly handsome, and I'm usually in a black shirt and exercise shorts so I'm fairly certain it's the car. I just got a haircut today and when I walked up to my 991, a old guy looked at my car for a good 30 seconds then gave me a thumbs up. And before I got in, a girl asked me if it was my car, said it looked nice, and said she's seen me around before.
Further, unlike my 335i whereupon I can hit 110 and not feel a thing...I drive like a Grandpa in my 991. Freaking everybody tries to race me. I define "tries to race" by a car accelerating to pull up beside me on the freeway and starts to rev or when a car becomes irrationally aggressive in maneuvering to cut me off when I am driving the speed limit.
Also, I don't have PSE, but my GF tells me that whenever I pass cars the drivers and their passengers always turn their heads. Granted, I do keep the car above 4k rpms on the freeway as soon as the oil is at temp so that's also probably why.
Bottom line, there is a noticeably significant increase in attention from this car.
I live in the Los Feliz area if that matters.

We are not the majority, most people think Porsches are ugly and hasn't changed since it's inception. So I can't agree with you that everyone secretly wants a Porsche. If you randomly select people and asked, I would say more people prefer the GTR over the Porsche. Some of my friends asked me why I did't get a Corvette, Porsches looks bland, yours is okay b/c it has that big wing.

My comment started the debate. That was not my intention.
To be clear, to me the GTR is due a great deal of respect for its performance. It is not an attractive car in my opinion. It is a car that appeals to men or boys that want to drive very very quickly. I am a man/boy that likes to drive very very quickly. To that part of me, the GTR is worth an immense amount of respect. To the part of me that has owned a Z06 (and found it lacking in refinement) I respect the Porsche more for what it is.
So the more correct statement I could have made is that the teenager in me highly respects the GTR, the experienced part of me has greater appreciation for the 911.
Again....My opinions. No disrespect meant in my original post.

And you know WHY the GTR gets more "respect". People know of it's massive overwhelming performance and respect that. But because most view it as a car for the playstation generation, a car without soul, not particularly goodlooking, they don't really want to own it themselves. So the are not envious, hence respect.
When they see a Porsche, they secretly want one themselves, hence the envy and jealousy rears its head and gets in the way of respect !

The GTR is one heck of a performance value .
I chose not to buy one for other reasons as follows :
1) I called approx 5 dealerships and all of them refused to allow a test drive . That in itself was a huge dealbreaker .
2) I have issues with signing a mandatory waiver by an auto manufacturer specifically presenting guideliness of how my car is to be driven . Even though I do drive within the parameters and do not track the cars I just don't agree with the principle of it .
3) I already have great experience with Porsche repairs and customer service and at my age I like having the comfort .
4) when i considered a GtR I did recall reading a post by a forum member who discussed how his Gt2 had 25K miles of track use with not even one hiccup but that his GtR did not hold up as well in long term hard driving. His post made me think .
5) I already have a modified 911 Turbo . It's certainly fast enough for me.
So it came down at that time between a GtR and a 991S and I picked the 991 but I ended up never buying it either . Instead I bought a Cayenne and then Boxster S and decided to keep my Turbo .
I would still pick the 991S over the GtR but I would never race one unless driving a Turbo and even then it's close . The GTR is a monster .

Fun in a car can be anything. It's not only about going fast or have the feeling that you're going fast. It can be the exhaust note, it can be the way a car handles or just gives you a smile on your face for some reason.
I like the GT-R for what it can achieve and all the technology that makes it possible, but I don't like it because of how it looks. That is a big part of the appeal of a car to me.

1) I don't feel it's possible for one car to be "fun" for all occasions . For example, if I am taking my pets to the veterinarian or buying a lot of groceries then my Cayenne is a lot more fun than a 911 Turbo (for those circumstances). Even in terms of performance "fun" might change with different environments . For example on a twisty road it's more "fun" to drive my mid engine Boxster than my modded Turbo but on a straight line power run I'd leave the Boxster at home .
In my opinion the GtR might be a lot of fun if the 991S remains in the rear view mirror .
2) Beauty -- If I really wanted a pretty car Ferrari and Lamborgini are pure automotive hotness !! Yet i have no desire to buy one. In fact my own personal opinion is that the Boxster and cayman are actually better looking than the new 991. But looks are only superficial to what the entire driving experience involves .
Conclusion -- judging a car on looks just isn't enough to either love or dismiss the machine . Sometimes the less attactive vehicle is still worth a second look .

Stunning combo--- reminds me a typical Ferrari-like color combo but looks sick on 911! Well done indeed!!

Having a 991S remain in the rearview mirror of a GT-R doesn't mean fun to me. Having a 991S remain in the rearview mirror of let's say a R8, would mean fun to me. For the simple reason that a R8 would make me feel good, driving it. The GT-R doesn't do that. (I've tried it three times) I just don't like the car... I can't help it.
Same goes for the C7. No matter how good it is, I don't like the car's looks (for what I've seen so far) or for that matter, EVERY Mercedes or AMG...... Incl. the SLS.
Maybe it's because I'm female and have a different perspective, but if a car can't give me the feeling I like to have when I'm driving it, than I just don't like the car. That feeling depends on a lot of different things.
2. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder of course, so that's a very personal thing. That said, for me it's one of the most important things. Both exterior and interior. In fact, the 991 is the first 911 I actually want to own as a daily driver... Because of how it looks, especially the interior.
Personally prefer the looks of the 991 over the 981, although it's very close.
This may sound very strange, but I don't think that Ferraris and Lamborghinis are that beautiful these days. There's only one Ferrari I really like and that's the F12. That's an almost perfect design. 458 doesn't even come close. In terms of looks I even prefer a 991 (not the Turbo!) over a 458. But again... Maybe it's because I'm female...?
There's one thing that I've noticed since I'm on these forums... When it comes to looks, my opninion is often very different, from what I read. So probably it is just me being different

The 911 is iconic & I like its looks as well, and I'd take a 991 CS in a heartbeat over the GT-R.
I can't see the C7 lacking a fun factor, and while I didn't care for the styling at first, it grew on me (unlike the GT-R)... I'd also take the C7Z51 over the GT-R without thinking twice.
The GT-R has earned a bit of respect for performance, but I don't care for the aesthetics of it, either the interior or exterior. After a few years of seeing them it still has the profile of the bottom portion of a Hoover Upright Vacuum. YMMV.
Op- Great looking car!

Just don't race one in a 991S . You'll lose .

#1 It is Nissan's policy to not allow test drives. They are not hurting for sales of the GT-R (not over the past 6 model years), and I'm sure this will remain the policy as long as there 1000 tire kickers per buyer.
#2 And it is not a waiver of anything, but a statement saying that you are aware of the noises it makes from the transmission, the squeaking brakes, etc... - instead of coming on to 6speed and complaining that the GT3 ride is too harsh, or the brakes in the Panamera squeak too much, etc... The dealer is responsible for telling you these things. It is basically a paper confirming that they've told you everything you need to know to be a responsible owner.
#3 Once you have a good relationship with a dealer, it's hard to trade that. I have one with my GT-R service dept (and I enjoy the special treatment I never experienced with Infiniti, Lexus, BMW and Porsche). This is a dealer-to-dealer thing.
#4 If we were to read posts regarding a car having a negative impact (including 911's), nobody would ever buy any car.
#5 Yeah, this is the reason I can't buy a new GT-R. I'm completely satisfied with my lightly modified one.
