991 Dual personality build - options?
#16
Like you, I wanted a dual personality car, comfy yet sporty. But I didn't want to go overboard with all the options, so I did a lot, A LOT, of research on all the options. So here is my take on it:
MUST haves:
-PDK (this is a no brainer on a expensive sportscar, more comfort, more performance, more involved driving)
-PASM (car sits lower, more comfy yet more sporty at the same time)
-PSE (THE option that will multiply the dual personality by 10)
-PTV Plus (for the hooligan days, but also for safety)
-14-Way Seats (sooooooo comfy, perfect seating postition, yet still perfect support for brisk driving)
One area where I just blew my money on something that turned out to be absolutely useless in retrospect:
-SportChrono
I got some other options, but those were not must haves, nor wasted money, see sig.

You are absolutely right. Which I should have known actually ;-)
It was an oversight on my part, I stand corrected !

I've made a quick config of a C2 cab. Price is $121,445 but with a small discount you will be able to keep it below the $120k.

Since you don't mention a color, I've picked one (metallic) myself.
- I've chosen for the combination PASM, PTV plus and 20" because I think it looks so much better. With the wheels you can save money if you want 19". Also added the PSE.
- The two-tone full leather interior makes the car look much more upmarket, because of the contrast and the free deviated stitching you get on the dark parts. You would normally pay about $1000 extra for that. A nice looking unterior makes you feel good when driving the car (IMHO)
- Power folding mirrors and park assist rear and front for convenience (although I would personally choose the sport design mirrors instaed of these two).
- Smoking package because it is free and adds a nice cover over the hole in the center console and an extra power outlet.
- Sportdesign steering wheel (a must with PDK! And the other wheels have stupid buttons instead of paddles and don't look very good IMO)
- Of course I've added the premium package plus with the 14-way seats. Seats are very personal and you really should try the different options before deciding.
I didn't add the Burmester, because it would get too expensive, although I think that even with the Burmester you should be able to come very close to $120k with some discount. Again... Go listen to the three different oprions and decide what is good enough for you.
I left the Sport Chrono out, because it doesn't add that much to the experience, other than an even more sporty mode, which you will probably don't use much IMHO. It's fun to have the Sport Chrono, but certainly not necessary. For a daily driver I think the comfort/luxury options are more important and with PASM and PTV plus you get more than enough performance-options to have a lot of fun with the car.
Like I said before... Every option is a matter of personal taste and you get various different views and opinions from various people. Configuring a Porsche is a pretty hard thing to do right. The base car is already a great sportscar, so from a rational point of view, not one option is truly necessary to experience the car.

Every now and then I read about options I wish I had in my car but the number one option I don't have and really wish I did is an upgraded leather interior. I think Suzy stated how I feel about the interior. The Luxor with all the carbon I have looks nice but IMO the leather would give it that extra bit of class. YMMV.

As mentioned several times, all choices are very personal. When considering my 991S configuration I did ask many questions on this forum and fully appreciated the input and enthusiasm of others. But more importantly you should take every response with a healthy dose of skepticism and make decisions based on your own personal experiences.
In the end, you are doing yourself a great service if you are patient and do your research. I went to two dealerships in my city and eventually I took a day trip out of state to visit a dealership which had a large inventory. It was only after that visit that I was able to confirm the color combo of car I wanted and specific combinations of SPASM, PDCC, PSP and other options. The driving experience was crucial for me. Driving back to back and seeing specific things in person sealed the order for me. The effort taken was well worth it...and fun!

Configuring a 991 is not an easy task. Doing the research and try various options is fun ti do and gets you a better vision of what options are important to you.
I've been configurating, ordering, canceling, ordering, canceling and ordering again for almost a year now, so I know how hard it can be, Finally after numerous testdrives and spending hours and hours on the configurator, I've made my decision... (At least most of it haha)
Good luck with it and keep us informed

Also, Suzy rocks, huh?

What does a leather rear view mirror add to the interior ambiance? Is there any visible stitching?
#25
#26
There's no visible stitching - don't have a lot of room to work around mirror and put stitching on it I guess. The leather is very sleek with mirror border, back surface and the area connecting to windshield covered with leather--works for me...as I said, no regrets

Here with dropping the BM for more performance features and keeping it just under 120k

Looks like a nice build.... And as everyone else has mentioned, the esthetics are something that is really hard as that is just very personal. I've found in the months that I spent deciding on materials and colors my preferences shifted and refined.. So giving things time to gel a little and exploring each possible option is wise..
I must comment I started out deciding to build because I just wanted a base lightly optioned to keep the cost down.. But gradually evolved to a fairly heavily optioned S.. lol so that's the risk.. But I'm clear now on what I want and don't want.. I convinced myself I wanted an S, but that is one thing I can see myself possibly backing down on.. I debated this for a very long while.
Full leather is great.. I'm not sure after seeing full leather that I could enjoy the standard dash.. Looks a bit cheap to me..
For daily driver I'm not sure Sports chrono is valuable.. I went with it, just because.. and there are folks around here that just seem to think you must have it.. I'm not so sure I'd ever miss it.. I think most of us will use sport+ a couple of times and never touch it again...
I got PASM, PTV as part of the S, and was a reason I decided to go with S, but I'm not sure I'd get them on a Base..
Like the sport steering wheel.. The multifunction would have been nice but looks like something out of a lexus.. Wish they had some multifunction features on the Sport wheel...
I'm sure you will love your build..
Premium plus.. specifically the key-less ignition was something I debated and never really could find a reason to get to spend the money on.. Some think it is a convince I really don't as I have this on other cars and find it to be more of a nuance.. it's different but not better to me..
I debated bose vs no bose.. In the end I went with Bose because I wanted the HD radio and XM.. so given that it.. But I can see just sticking with basic audio system, but I tend to enjoy my music so I wanted a bit more..

I'm looking to order a 991 base cabrio in the near future. My desire is to build a car that has all the comforts/luxuries needed to be my daily for a long commute I have, while having a second personality of a fast, fun, family friendly sports car in which I can enjoy some spirited driving around the suburbs. Never gonna track the car or race in any fashion.
So far I have come up with:
Base model 991 Cabrio
Comfort/Luxury:
Full two tone leather interior.
14 - way seats
Premium package plus
Folding mirrors
Bose
Base 19" wheels (smoother ride in the base?)
Voice control (?)
Sporty:
PDK
PASM (?)
PSE
power steering plus
sport design steering wheel w paddles
Appreciate any thoughts/opinions - hoping to keep it around or below 120k MSRP.
Thanks!

Appreciate the opinions! I am definitely gonna spend a lot of time at the dealers around my city before making my final selections.
I like the Carrera Classic wheels a lot - they just look sexy. If I drop SC and folding mirrors I could get them for roughly the same price lol. Decisions, decisions!
